225/40/18 series tires too big for lowering?
Hi there. My room mate has an '01 SE, and he bought a set of used 18's. The tire size is 225/40/R18. Are these tires too big to lower the car? Looking at the front wheels, they just barely stick out past the fender maybe 1/4" not even. I don't know the width of the rim yet, I'll get it when I go home tonight. They're made by "Kore Racing" Any info would be apprecited.
kinda big, i had those on my 3rd gen, they rubbed, but you got a 5th gen...have him put 2 on teh front and drive in a tight *** circle, see what it does

The offset is standard. There is no lip on the front of the rim. It's flush. I can't find pictures of the rim... but I'm looking. The only real problem I could think there would be is with the back spacing. I won't know that till I get the rim width tonight.

Can I bring it to a tire shop and have them tell me? I think I'll get him to do this.

yup, and how much you want to lower the car.
sounds like the offset's too low if the wheels are "sticking out," even just a little. on top of that the 225/40/18's are 1" too tall. that's a big difference. the wheels may work, but chances are he'll have to switch to a 225/35/18.
anyway, find out the offset and we should be able to tell you more.

I'm dropped about 2" with 215/35/18. The only time I ever get a slight rub is if I hit something like a large speed bump with the wheels turned all the way. I avoid speed bumps like the plague anyway, don't need to rip off my kit.
