Replacing the water pump on a 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS: hard?
Is it hard to replace the water pump on this car with just a jack and regular tools? I would love to fix my car myself but I don't know if it will be difficult or not. I'm not totally clueless about my car - I've fixed it a few times in the past. The only thing that deters me from fixing it is that the pump is way down in there. It almost looks like I need to pull the engine out to get at it. Or do I? What's the best way to replace the pump? I got a Chilton's manual coming in the mail if that helps.
Thanks everyone!

its pretty easy.. requires pulling the timing cover, and belt... Then, unolt the pump, put a new one in and reset it all.. The hardest part is lining the timing back up.... Also, make sur eyou tension it appropriately before cranking... This is sort of a tight area, but its certainly workable.. Ive done it on a h22 3rd gen... So, yes it can be done and is possible...
Wow, just a day and this is on page 3?? The forums are that busy? That is really cool.
That's great to hear! I think I'll pick up a pump off ebay and see what I can do with it. I know it's possible, cause well, people do it, but it's a really tight spot so ... yeah. I bet I can do it if it's sunny out and I'm on a good mood. I don't really like working in the cold ...

Ok, I bought a new timing belt and water pump. Hopefully I'll be able to replace my stuff without pulling the engine out
Hey, I don't mind playing around with $43 if it's going to cost me $600 to get it fixed ...

the only hard part is getting the crank pully off, you may need either a huge impat gun, or a special tool form honda, or wedge a pry bar into teh teeth on the flywheel, and tehn crack the nut free

I dont recommend setting timing on a car if you dont know how to work on cars... a tooth off and your cars going to run like *******, more than that and your risking your engine...just my 2 cents.
Hello, I have done one of those years ago. Not to hard just like a 90-03 integra. They are right, the hardest is timing the timing belt... you may find that the belts are a bitch to get off? What ever you do just line the timing belt and you'll be fine!
