I had the second slowest fast lap and still beat 28 other starters.

I guess this goes to show that H5 Civics running 2:38's can indeed share the track w/ GT3 Cup cars running 2:05's. in a race situation. Not too suprised that NASA only ran one sprint race group for 70+ cars

And I was a little freaked being passed by Johnny O'Connell's Daytona Prototype through Hogpen at a test day last year. Can't imagine what it would have been like in a race situation.

I presume from http://www.nasaracing.net/VIR_....html that you pitted on lap 36 (driver change)?

I also assume there was a caution on laps 13 and 14.

2:12.404 from the S2K? WOW! Confirmation of complete H1 legality? If so, watch out this season!

The car didn't appear to be any different from last year

I don't have any outside confirmation, but as the car owner and builder, I can confirm that it is 100% H1 legal. It is about 35 pounds over the new min weight - mainly due to the incredible cage in it.

What sucks about the results is our Transponder wasn't working properly. It looks like it didn't hit on about 8-9 laps on the track (by my calculations we actually finished somewhere between 11th & 15th).

What really sucks was the alternator belt disintegrating about 1 hour from the end.

All in all the new car ran great, a 16.6 in the enduro and a 15.8 in the sprint with the low-horsepower motor and the suspension still not quite sorted is a great start for the car.

I'll confirm it, from drooling over it on Saturday as well as running with the car on the track. I was beating them on the straights but Jason was absolutely hammering that car through the esses. I envy the handling on that car.

Does NASA not have humans counting laps? I had to do that once as part of earning my SCCA comp license (WDCR requires novice permit holders to work a few sessions).

That race was a lot fun. I had not driven the track since 2001, so it took me a few laps to get up to speed. Then once I started to get a little more comfortable the trans decided that whenever I put it into 5th it didn't want to be there and was popping back into neutral. Going though the esses holding the shifter in 5th so it wouldn't pop out while jerking the steering wheel back and forth was a lot of fun. There were soo many fast cars and great drivers there this weekend made me step up the driving a little. I would like to thank everyone for the racing, it was great. Sam it was great racing and hanging out with you, and again thanks for not hitting me during saturday qualifying.

Yes on both counts but there was no driver change - just fuel added.

Kirk-

No apology necessary - I had a blast. It was my first time at VIR and I was slow in some parts of the track and held people up. I promise I'll be much faster at my next VIR event

They probably would have dealt with it fine if it were just a sprint race. The problem is that you had a sprint race for 944 Cup & CMC for the first 35 minutes or so (another 25 or so cars on the track with a split start).

Also, I'm not sure that anybody scores cars in an enduro if the transponder conks out. It's a lot harder to figure out who's where when you have multiple pit stops and a longer race.

We could have pitted to fix it (I think it's just a loose wire) , the only difference would be that we probably would have lost a bunch of time trying to diagnose a wiring problem like that anyway, so the results sheet may have looked much the same.

I was showing the results to a guy I work with and just now realized that I read the right-most column incorrectly - the total race time...

You kids pay attention to my mistake: There's little question that I could have been 43 seconds farther down the track after 3-1/4 hours, if I hadn't gotten complacent about half way through. I would then have been ahead of the first-in-class car, rather than behind it.

Lesson learned.

I *think* you were a lap behind. So even if you made up that 45 seconds, you would simply have crossed start/finish alongside him, but still a lap down. Am I missing something?

lockwood... it sounds like you and chad especially were having trandsponder problems. someone mentioned that amb would refund your event money if their transponder was hooked up properly, the light was on, and it was not functioning. not sure if chad has checked on this yet or not.

also, didn't you guys shred an alternator belt during the 13hr?
