Your thoughts on using 215/40R16 tires (ie: poor mans final drive change)
The diameter of the stock tire combo is 595mm, when you switch to 215/40/16 you´ll have only 578mm diameter. That means you can accelerate in every gear faster, but your speedo will be way off. When your tach shows 75 mph you drive only ~68 or so.
Also I would lower the car with some performance springs, cause it looks a bit ugly when there is the big hole between fender and the little tires.
When I bought my car it had 215/40/16 on and the ride was very fine. You can defenitly feel the acceleration. Give it a try, when you don´t like it you can just sell the tire.

Stock Circumference is 73.65 inches
215/40-16 Circumference 71.54 inches
or a -2.87% difference. Your speedo would need to read 72mph to actually be going 70mph. Try this site. You can calculate speeds by changing out tire sizing along with FD Ratio and Gearing. http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/mph.htm#GearSpeed

I have 215-40 16s on my volks, and they're fine and dandy...the speedo's not off too much, and they do feel a little quicker (though, so do the lighter volks, a combo of speed
)
