Wierd knocking noise... Possibly axles
When we put the SM project together, we went with Autozone axles for the S4C trans (with new OEM ITR diff) because our budget for the project was running low and as many know, the axles have a lifetime replacement guarantee.
The noise...
* Car is at a dead stop and you are making LEFT hand turns only
* Wheel must be turned 1 full time (DX rack) to make ~ 90* turns
* You hear a rhythmic knocking noise that doesn't occur except as noted above
* Noise is not present when negotiating any other type of turn once the car is moving
* Daily driving is not affected
Searching revealed...

Most likely the outer joint, but are there any other opinions? We use the factory trans fluid, which I'm assuming is a non-issue.

I actually had a similar problem that drove me crazy for months. After swearing that it was in the right front, turns out it was the exhaust. I actually looked at the exhaust several times before I found that it was rubbing on the chassis where it curves toward the rear section. Probably not your problem, but check it out. Good luck

The upper ball joints are a good thing to look at...
However, it occurs sort of like it's in time with the rotation of the tire.
Thanks.

Interesting, would the standard "wheel tug test" be sufficient?
I thought a bad wheel bearing would produce a constant droning when that side is "loaded" while the vehicle is moving. This is only noticable when starting from a dead stop when there is at least 1 full turn in the steering wheel.
