ZC/Si Tranny
I just purchased a DOHC ZC motor from Noyan USA. After waiting for fifteen minutes for the guy there to take the tranny off the motor, the manager walks out and says I can have the tranny for free. Cool! So I got a free ZC tranny with my motor. My question is this... what are the major differences between the ZC tranny and my stock Si tranny? What my thought is that I am going to put an HF fifth gear in my Si tranny for regular driving, and use the ZC tranny for track time. I know the ZC tranny has an intermidiate shaft, so what axels do I need to use, and what clutch can I use to replace in the ZC tranny? I know some of you are going to say "SEARCH", but I develop web pages everyday for a living, and this search function sucks. I am looking for some advice and know how from people that have experience with these trannies. I don't need a bunch of smart *** remarks, so thanks in advance to those that respond with intelligence.
A good combo would be to swap out the ZC's 3.88 final drive for the Si's 4.25 and use the SI's 5th gear or even an HF 5th gear. So what you will have is the ZC 1-4 and an HF or SI 5th with the Si's final drive. The gearing is amazingly short but you still have the HF/Si 5th for highway cruising.
Go here http://effinmotorworks.com They have an awesome breakdown of the swap and even offer to give you insturctions for doing it yourself. They used to sell this combo for dirt cheap but no longer offer the service
Good luck and good score on the free tranny
