Default K20a2 installed...few questions.

I finished installing my k20a2 in the ep3.

I can't nooooot figure out how to get that damn shifter piece out so I can shave it down to get in reverse...anyone have details on how to get it out?

Also, I know I'm going from a 300whp 255wtq car to a NA car with just a sri...but I'm not very impressed with the k20a2 so far.

Is there some kind of feeling/sound I'm supposed to feel when I get into vtec? I thought it was going to be like a b16 I had driven...but that was a long time ago.

Also, what are normal temps while at idle? It's 70 degrees out tonight. As I let the car idle I see it get up to 205 degrees F. So that kind of freaks me out. As I start driving, the temps drop immediately and I see 175 degrees F. I added the coolant like the manual says...add till it comes up to the neck, then start the car, let it warm up and add if needed.

Intake temps are terrible...122 while at idle...I'll be switching to a CAI soon.

Well, at least I can drive my car now...just not in reverse :thumbs_up

Can i ask why you chose to swap it then? I mean dropping down about 130 whp and expecting to be impressed seems odd to me. What were you expecting?

amazing how people don't pay attention to the actual question.

well, I got the shifter thing fixed..just took a dremel and cut that washer. Then I was able to get the piece out and shave some of it off. Works like a charm.

Now I just need to see if I'm just being paranoid about the temp issue.

And yes, I blew my k20a3 with the turbo I HAD. I SOLD IT. DON'T CARE FOR TURBO.

I drove my friends ep with k20a3 i/h/e and it feels the same as this k20a2 with just a sri...not too impressed yet. But either way, my main goal is to have my car drivable

you kept the k-pro and are running flash number 4, right? if so you will not feel/hear v-tec crossover as much as the stock flash. try and put it on the stock k20a2 cal and you will here/feel it more, but you wont make as much power. oh yeah and dont give up on the a2, i am in the 13's with just i/h/e/hondata in my rsx

to answer your questions.

if you're running a stock ECU, u should feel VTEC accelerate faster. if you're running reflash or kpro, then u probably won't even feel it.

if you talking about coolant temp, 190-210 is normal.

sri temps are that high. that's just how they are.

thanks guys. I got it all working right now. shifter and coolant is just fine. I was just being paranoid and ignorant

the car is feeling faster and faster as I go. It only has like 16k miles on it. my friend with i/h/e on his ep3 said mine is faster and I only have a crappy sri. race header here I come :D

yeah right now, you basically have a bone stock type s. short rams don't do much on those motors. plus remember the flash is for a CAI. once you get some more mods, you'll be surprised how fast it is. oh yeah and if ya didnt know my s/n on ephatch is black 02 si, i used to have the blown ep3.
