Do you have a carb or is it a DPFI system?

There were no carb'd usdm 88-91 civics...that I'm aware of, anyway.
There were several different carb'd motors available in other markets.

It is dpfi unless someone swapped in a carbed motor or modified it to run carbs which is highly unlikely. The car is most likely dpfi.

You're not listening...
screw what the guy told you....it's not uncommon for moron mechanics mistake the dpfi assembly for a carb.

For us to tell you what needs to be done, we have to know if its carb'd or DPFI.

Changing from DPFI, which is already a form of fuel injection to the more desireable MPFI is relatively easy.
Converting from a full carb to fuel injection is much more involved.

It would help if you could tell us the trim/model of Civic (DX, LX, EX etc).
Go look under your hood and read what's on the top of the black, circular lid on the intake manifold.

go take a picture of the engine bay or something and post it. That way we can easily identify it.
