k20 or b18c swap ?? I think im sticking with a b18c
So ever since the Hasport came out yesterday ive been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what engine I want. Ive finailly decided on the b18c. To all of you wondering what engine you would rather think of this :
1. k20 ITR is only 40HP up from a JDM b18c, and about 3 GRAND more expensive (hmotorsonline.com)
2. There is less than 5 EF k20 swaps in existance, think it will be easy to get help if you dont know what your doing ?
3. b18c1 turbo will net more HP and be cheaper than a stock k20 itr
4. b series mounts are cheaper
5. b series have much much more aftermarket support and have been around for over 10 years
6. There are litterally thousands of b swapped Ef's, making it easier to get the info you need when you need it.
7...maybe im just too broke to do a k20 swap.
So basically im going to wait about 5 years when theres lots and lots of k20 swapped EF's and the engines will be cheaper, all the bugs will be worked out and theres will be tons of H-T people to help me out.

b18c would be a good choice. Unless you like troubleshooting on your own go with the b18c as the k series into an ed chassis has not been done too many times so there isn't alot of knowledge on the subject.

do a bit more research and you will find the potential of a k is far greater than a b. lots of stock k20 out there in ek/eg chassis are running 12 seconds with just like a kpro and some slicks. One guys dyno i saw made 315 horse to the wheels with a wet 75 shot. Try that on a b-series. Hybrid Racing even raced their stock k20 against an evo 8 running 22 lbs of boost and just spanked it! vid is on this thread --->https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=916979&page=1and why do you want to do it in a few years when everyone and their grandma has one like b series now. a b18 just isnt that special anymore...but a kswap is badass.

dude. wtf kinda question is that. lol if u got the money. let it do the talkin for u. if u have trouble puttin it in a crx... if u got money hey.. done deal
ill let you in on my top secret plans for my 1990 crx dx:
USDM K20A2 from a 2000+ RSX Type-S
Haspot Mounts + Axles
Walboro 255 w/ SS lines
Crower Head Package
K-Pro ECU
Hasport Headers
2.5 inch custom exhaust without the final Z bend in the rear, passenger side exit all mandrel bent
Intake I am undecided, since theres no way to make ITB's fit without a fugly custom hood, I might just get a really nice Manifold of some sort.
The reason why I posted this info, is I did a lot of reading and there are all motor k20a2s putting down some very serious numbers. If all goes to plan, I will have as much torque at the wheels, then my b16a currently has horsepower.
It wont be cheap, and yes it is uncertain since there arent tons of people to ask for help, but theres only one place that matters, Hasport, if you really get stuck, you can call them and they will help you. They stand behind their products. Hondata is the same.
Just trying to give you some realistic advice about the K. I have a thread I am putting together about all the mods that have to be made to go K. Look for it sometime this week, I have been working on it for a long time.

maybe you should compare the power potential of each one, and not just the base amount of power they make, you'd be surprised..
2. There is less than 5 EF k20 swaps in existance, think it will be easy to get help if you dont know what your doing ?
you mean there are only 5 that you know of
3. b18c1 turbo will net more HP and be cheaper than a stock k20 itr
do a search in the all motor forum for username nikos or under subjects search pacman. You'll see some vids of K swapped Civics doing 11's-12's with I think a stock bottom end.
4. b series mounts are cheaper
yup
5. b series have much much more aftermarket support and have been around for over 10 years
The K20 has only been out a few years, and the power people are making with them is way above the power you make with a B motor.
6. There are litterally thousands of b swapped Ef's, making it easier to get the info you need when you need it.
yup
7...maybe im just too broke to do a k20 swap.
if you say so

or you could be one of the few people to do it now, so maybe in 5 years when I decide to do a K swap I can go to you for questions, hehehe. Seriously though, do a price check and see how much the B18C's prices have changed. It will probably be more then 5 years until prices on K swaps go down.</TD></TR></TABLE>
