'88 Accord LX Timing Belt/Oil Seals
I started doing the timing belt on my Accord and came up with some questions:
1. What is the best way to remove the crank and cam seals on this car?
2. I set the crank to TDC accrording to the tick mark on the flywheel. However, the camshaft gear looks like its about 1 tooth off (at most). But if I turn the crank over to line up the marks, the flywheel is off. So, I'm wondering if this is somewhat normal OR if my cam is really one tooth off and the distributor has been moved to compensate? Is that even possible? Car runs well and gets 31.6 MPG running I-40/I-81 in TN at 75-80 MPH (5 spd).

When you replace the T-belt the cam&crank should line up right again; but if there is any "1/2 tooth" doubt it's best to have the cam retarded.[clockwise as you face it] Be sure to take up all the slack of the belt on the front side, then recheck the timing marks. Say hello to Mr Yamada!

Looking at the cam gear, the mark closest to the drivers seat is "down" a bit more and the side closest the fender is "up". In other words, from the fender side, I would have to turn the cam gear counterclockwise slightly for the marks to line up. Does that qualify as "slightly" retarted? Is it possible the distributor has been adjusted to compsenate for this? Should I try to make everything right or just put it back the way it was?
