Default preparing a motor to be swapped...

Right now i have a d16z6 block and head. Before i put them together i want to get them both really clean so that they are visually appealing... The block sat for awhile and therefor has a little rust on the mounts and bolts holding the oil pan... so what should i spray on there to loosen up the grime? and what would you use to scrub it to get all that stuff off... i was thinking about spraying the block too once im done. Not some rice color. Im gonna sand and paint my valve cover either black or a dark gray and then go over the raised letters where it says "HONDA" with some fine grit to make it shiny metal. Basically how do you clean up a motor.
