Just how big of a dog are you talking about?
That might not be very safe for you or the dog..
You might want to consider some sort of a harness
that is tethered to the floor.
I have taken my rottweiler to the veterinarian in mine before..
I removed the passenger seat and put down some blankets
for her to lay on,but it was not that far of a drive..

Um, most people have their dogs hanging out the window, might wanna lecture them first.
Your idea was right on though, check out

So you gutted the rear compartment?
you could get something like these:

though these are for wagons and suv's most likely.

Actually, I was giving him a courtesy bump..
But seriously..
You don't always get to be old from being stupid..
In the event of an accident,un-secured cargo can
become a deadly projectile.. That was all I was getting at..
peace..

Well its a 64lb pit I like to take him with me and i do secure him now to the rear strut bar but I would like a cage so I asked. Thanks guys. I just have to pick 1 now I guess
Well i consider my dog a loved one rather than "unsecured cargo"....just messing w/ you man....and the lecture thing was a joke too
.
You gotta pitbull ay, love those dogs. post some pics of him if you got any.

My 115 pound american bulldog has never been in my crx but he rides in my teg all the time, I just fold the seats down and call it good and it would be a pain to put up a cage everytime I go somewere since I take him almost everywere.
I dont see the point if you have a well behaved dog, just use a dog safty restraint.

I used to just latch my dog in with the seatbelt on my old 1989 CRX, it worked out great. He would just sit in the passenger seat and let me latch him in, and he wouldn't even squirm or anything. The seatbelt actually secured him pretty good LOL

Note that these dogs are tethered to a harness, not their collar!
