the stock cd head-unit doesn't have an INPUT for the aftermarket changer, but what they do is they send the data by FM instead of an audio cable, by doing that you get to keep you stock head-unit or whatever piece you have as long as it will play FM. The downside is the quality of the sounds, there's no replacement for a direct physical connection, period(at least not now, in the fields of automotive audio)

The oem head-unit compatible changer is pretty price and not all stock cd head-unit have the control interface and harness slot for it. but since you have a ex, i think you have the slot but again, that just if you want to get oem compatible unit.

MP3 head-unit is getting very popular, about 300-400 songs per disc, you can organize into albums, categories, etc
the cheapest brand mp3 player is 125, they are average about 200(i think if you know how to burn mp3 into disc, mp3 is the way to go)

most aftermarket(kenwood, sony, etc) changer have that FM transmitting module thing, the best bet is to go to an autostore(it's wise to go to couple before finalizing any purchase) and ask, since there's like hundreds of different models and brand.

see if they have anything to say, most likely your stock headunit will not have an aftermarket control interface, but just to make sure, have them remove the headunit to see.(my stock oem accord radio do have one even no cd changer was offered as options, weird i know)

Perhaps some of the knowledgeable 5th gen owners can fill us in.

but to give you some idea, this is a diagram from my 98-02 accord cd player, it's single disc player that comes with the cd changer harness slot. All the connections and wires are marked, in other word, it's a half hour solder job to connect this cd player to ANY aftermarket changer(OEM or not)

The left side of the harness slot is for cd changer input/control, the right side is the output/power to speaker, etc

hard-wire everything in is the tougher but it sounds better than just FM modulation cd changer

OH! almost forgot to host the picture

If you receiver you have now is cd changer compatible, them ANY aftermarket changer will work with it. You just ahve to have the changer connectin cord. Hope this helps...

My cousin had a 96 and she had an alpine CD changer installed and it worked with the stereo controls. Alpine manufactures the stereo in your car.
