heres the story. i purchased another 1990 honda accord lx 4 dr for cheap! At first, the lady that owned it couldnt get the key out the ignition after she had started it up. so she left it running while she test drove another car. ( i work at a dealership) when we returned, there was a fire truck putting out the fire under her hood. it didnt look too bad after all the smoke cleared up. all i could see that was burned was the starter. actually, it was mainly the wires connected to it. she didnt want any headaches with it, so we negotiated on $300. i went out and bought a good used starter and battery and installed them assuming it was all that i needed. when i tried to crank it, i couldnt turn the ignition at all. its locked up! also, the throttle is very very hard to press on. maybe ive got my own headache to worry about now. what can you guys diagnose out of this? is the car junk now? the starter connections dont look bad, just the rubber covers have melted away. would i need to replace any connections? all help and imput is appreciated. thanks in advance.

 

dam if a fire occured, i would be worried of melted wires... that can cause all kinds of problems...

as for the ingition getting stuck..i had this problem and i just greased up my key and inserted it..viola its all good.

 

i dont think it was really a big fire. i checked all around the starter area and the only thing damaged that i need to reuse are the starter connections. and it was only the rubber boots that melted away. as far as the copper wiring, it doesnt look too bad. i wouldnt a small fire would damage copper, would it?

 

i'm actually parting out a 91 accord coupe.. i was planning on selling the engine as a whole, but i could piece it some if you run into problems.. otherwise it's goin on ebay in a couple days... just e-mail me davyjoseph@hotmail.com
