how to tell if an LSD is working by holding it?
can this be done? i'll be buying an OEM LSD used soon. i need to know if there is a way to tell if it's not working by looking at it. or, is it even possible for one of these not to work even though it looks normal? no cracks or whatnot, of course, and if that's true, is it going to work? so, if it's not broken or messed up on the outside, is it garaunteed to work? thanks, hope somebody can help me out.
well if it looks in good shape i suppose ... otherwise i would install it and do a fatty burnout and if there are 2 tire tracks... its working..

That doesn't work all the time, since some cars not equipped with lsd can do this also. But if you do go for it, i believe you can jack up and rotate the wheel and the other should spin the opposite direction? i forget.

an OEM ITR LSD is a helical type LSD, and is designed that it does not wear out under normal use. It is strictly gear driven. Hold it up, and just try to spin some of the gears, and if you see everything spinning together, all the gears meshing well and not much resistance, than that is a GREAT indication, and almost 100% that it is good.
