Benchracer Question
I know that there can not be a " definate " answer to this because I realize all cars are different, but I honestly have no idea what power increase's are seen on Honda's, I'm a DSM guy myself so here is what my setup currently consists of.
89 DX Hatchback D15xx ( Don't know exact code )
I plan on doing the following mods.
97' Z6 Vtec Head Swap
Z6 Intake Manifold w/60mm TB
DPFI to MPFI Conversion w/P28 ECU
Ebay 3'' Intake
Z6 Exhaust Manifold
Press-Bent 2.25'' Piping, No-Cat, Bullet Resonator, and an 05 RSX Type S Muffler
Y8 Metal Headgasket (According to Knology it should be roughly 10.4:1)
AEM-Tru-Time Cam Gear
Ex/Si Tranny.
Gut the car enough to get it down to 1700-1800 without me in it. ( If Possible )
Thats basically waht I have for the car as of now, alot of these mods arn't costing me much, I just want to see what I can do with minimal money, to a lil experiment daily driver so my Talon can be the designated race car. I want to try to trap somewhere around 9x in the 1/4, Don't know if thats obtainable, but I'm going to try.

Did you have a question......or a point? Either way, sounds like a plan.
Oh and I'm pretty sure a vtec head from '97 is a y8, not z6. Make sure all your other parts will be compatible. Good luck

Think he wants to know about how much hp that combo will make and what 1/4 might be in that car honestly you wont make that much power with that set-up unlessu build the motor to work that way. Its the same principles as ls/vtec....
Pros: Vtec, Usually a better flowing head more top end and higher rev limit
Cons: Needs to be properly tuned to make any great gains, Still can only rev as high as the non-vtec block will allow,
You should just completely buy a d16y8 engine but, to each his own!
oh yea expect about 125 hp and 115 tq tuned

I hope thats crank and not whp.. With that setup expect to run somewhere in the mid to high 15s on drag radials. Good tuning and an even greater 60' will be the big deciding factors. Again, this is only MY opinion drawn together from what I believe to be correct. To each his own, - Darrell

Yea thats crank.... I would never expect 125hp to the wheels on a car using a d15 block.
And mid 15s on slicks is just about right.... I suggest some kind of power adder....
maybe turbo but i don know a supercharged set- up would be nice for reliablity on that motor b/c it wont exaggerate the extra power like a turbo or Nitrous would...
I also suggest u run a diffrent tranny im not sure which 1 probably the si tranny compatible with a Ef8/9 chassis

Well damn, thanks for all the comments guys, I was hoping for a bit more out of it than that, but I'll take your guys's word for it. I bought this car to be a daily beater since my talon only gets 16mpg. I got 2 vtec heads for cheap, one " brand new / rebuilt " and a manifold. I don't wanna spend alot of money on this car, just basically experimenting and having fun with it, but if i'm only going to see an extra 30 crank hp from those mods, I'm wasting my time and money. I figured I could get maybe 125 wheel, and in a 1700lb car, that would make it move somewhat quick, but I guess I was shooting to high. We'll se how it goes as time progress's
Thanks again guys.

I would think it to at least get 130-135 wit that compression? The stock z6/y8 is like 125.

Yah I was hoping for around 125 whp, I mean, I figure the stock DX engine with like low 9 compression ratio and DPFI puts out 92 crank hp, I've read that swapping to MPFI is around 10 crank hp from the manifold swap and more efficient etc etc. Heard the z6 exhaust manifold flows better as well as having an aftermarket exhaust would yield a few crank hp ~5-7, Intake, maybe ~2-3, swapping to OBD1 and using the correct ECU for Vtec would yield an increase over just using a crappy old ECU that dosn't do the correct timing advance and fuel enrichment. Then Jacking the compression up to 10.4:1 with a higher flowing head and vtec to boot, I read that the head swap alone is good for 25-30 crank hp, with those shotty estimates, thats probably 140ish crank. But again, I'm not a honda guy so my estimates may be off.
