Default Top Speed?

just wondering what the fastest you guys have ever gone? today was the first time i watched the speedo as i had it opened up in 6th, i backed off @ 170. a friend of mine keeps saying that he went 187mph on the 10 (in CA) on his 02' GSXR 750. all the bike has is a yosh slip on and a K&N is that speed possible on an 02 750?

Its possible that the speedo said that he was going that fast but not that he was actually going that fast.
Top speed runs on the street

top speed runs on a bike anywhere are pretty silly, we all know they go fast.

Oh man, I'm going to get roasted for this one. *Zipping up flame-tard suit*

To date on the RR, 184 mph, bone stock, and I think it had a bit more to give. Although, I know what is said about the accuracy of the speedo in that range ... but that was the digital readout and @ 13,500 - 14,000 RPMs.

In my defense, I was the only soul on the runway-like highway for about four miles on a stretch, had my gear on, head tucked beneath windscreen, and had done two low-speed recon runs to check for rocks, holes, any imperfections on the road surface. I knew what I was up against, too ... jail time, massive wreck, death if caught or wrecked. But, you only live life once, and that was the closest experience to flying I've had other than in a Cessna years ago. So, think what you want. I value safety very much despite the above. No squid here. This is my 12th year riding two-wheelers, but I had to know what that RR would do. And now I know.

The closest track to me is more than 250 miles away, too. It sucks.

184 on a 600....hmm internal motor work/spray? If not, sorry thats bullshit. I have seen them at limiter in 6th at much lower speeds. Especially when an 04 gixxer 1000 topped out at 179 indicated. But good try.

Phaze2, that's what I said ... the speedo said 184. Whether that was the ACTUAL speed, I honestly doubt it, too. I'll tell you with every scrap of belief, though ... it'd be safe to say I was doing 165+. There, you happy?

mags tested the new liters going abou ~170-175mph... i was probably around that... was on this road :

http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway58.htm

here's a quote from some guy
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I've made the LA to Bay Area run a bunch of times, using Hwy 33, 58, 101, 198, and 25, among others. One gorgeous afternoon, popping my eastbound-58-cherry, I hit the rollercoaster hills going 130 mph. I knew what I was in for as soon as I saw the rollers coming -- it was too late for the brakes unless I wanted 'em to lock when gravity gave way. Crested the first roller, caught air and hung there forever, touched down just enough off dead straight to know what I'd almost done, glanced at the speedo ('cause I knew I'd be telling _this_ story about ten billion times), and spent the next ten minutes screaming in total exhilaration.</TD></TR></TABLE>

ROFL i did the same thing.....the road had HUGE rolling up and down ****... i hit one going about 120 and i had both wheels off the ground. felt insane.

No, im saying even indicated, unless something is very wrong electrically, never happened. I know your actual wasnt above 160, but indicated even would not be near 184. Litre bikes barely hit 180 indicated, no less actual. No stock 600rr got close.

I'm not here to argue with you, Mike. if you say that i didn't glance down and see that, then I guess I didn't.

Not to be an ***, but hey, it could be an error. But I know what I saw, man.

-Edited- to say that indicated 165/170 range have happened several times. If you know the hard numbers on this machine better than I do, then please share.

The fastest stock 600 that some magazine tested was the '05 R6 at 167mph w/a 8mph tail wind. Speedo would indicate around 185mph.

So about the 750, i want you guys to say so i can print it out. My friend walks around all the time saying he went 178mph on his 02' 750 and im like ok so a busa can go 20? a liter bike is much slower top speed and a 750 HA! he has a 2down which he climes wasn't on the bike at the time. which would make the bike read 178 @ 155 if the spedo was for real. just give me some feed back on how bull 178 on a almost stock 750 is...

oh yeah and correction on my above post, i have 1 down in the front so that would make it 159 if it was 100% correct and i was doing it in front of a school just as school was getting out. lol no it was in the desert, basically what airplane man said i agree. you know no cars on the road... blah blah blah... Im not for going 130 on the freeway to work, but if you ride you got to do it once. anyone who says that going 135+ is fun is craze and or bs-ing. a guy i met down in riverside, CA with a busa told me that and i couldn't agree more. he said he had once gone 187 and it was the thrill of his life. don't you guys agree?

It must be CRAZY to be on a GP bike hitting 200 then slamming the breaks and hanging a corner...

I'll remember buryin the needle in my ZX-7 for thr rest of my life, it was a insane rush, I don't nessessarly have the urge to get another bike and go faster, i did at the time but now i think that was fast enough, it was on like a 3 mile straight, which is fun but its WAYYY more of a rush to drag you knee through a whole line of twisties....

I just wanna say I went 185 mph on stock gears and I still had more throttle left that's fast enough for me I just wanted to see if it would do the max on the speedo . I don't have a digital speedo, what's the error on the needle speedos? That's the only time I went past 170. I now have a V&H Power Pack and 2 up rear and I don't plan on trying to max out on top speed again, just wanna get that G force rush.

hks85 - was your friend doing 187 or 178??
