1,500 to spend, what to upgrade (2001 LS)
It's not definate yet but I am soon possibly getting a 2001 Integra LS, im not the most car smart person but i am learning. Im looking for opinions on what i should do to the car once i get it for a quick boost in speed with only 1500$. All your advice is much appreciated. (BTW im going for all motor, not looking to putting any turbo in)
it's my opinion that going all motor on an ls engine is a waste of money. but if i were you i'd upgrade the suspension. do some research on coilovers and swaybars to make yor car handle much better. if you do the typical (intake, header, exhaust) then you'll only net about 10hp or so to the wheels, which is not worth the money imo. goodluck.
Just get yourself a good Suspension Setup. Don't waste your time trying to build an Ls All Motor Setup. You'll spend far too much and be very diappointed once you're done. Suspension is a good safe move that you won't regret. Other than that an Air intake, header, and a Huge Wing should do the trick.....leave that last one out.
not everyone is all about vtec. i think the site is nonvtec.com for us LS lovers.
Suspension is a must, do lots of searching and reading to get the best bang for your buck. As stated above get all the normal stuff, then you can also look into cams. Exospeed has LS re-grind, and i think crowler also does a new LS cam. Along with cams you will need to look into fuel supply, cam geras...etc. But once again search is your best friend.
The most important thing is tuning. Find a good local tuner and get with them. $1500 will be a good start on a project.

yeah i prolly wouldnt waste $1500 on the motor its not gonna get you anywhere.
i prolly get an
used intake - $100
supension $500-$700
exhaust $300-$500
ITR front lip - $150
strut bars - $100-$200
or just get rims and supension

i got a 2000 ls teg. all my goin to do is suspension, header(jdm type r ) with a test pipe and prob get some rims. i have a exhaust and intake but there not much more to do with a ls unless i want to swap motors. i'd rather save up for a type r or type s

I'm sorry i have to say it. I think it would be helpful to know your intent with this car. Do you want to drag race, autocross, or do you simple want a nice daily driver thats fun to drive. Depending on what you want from the car you will want to spend your money differently. If you have time to save some more pennies as they put it consider a GSR or TypeR. I think the GSR gives th ebest bang for the buck but that is arguable. Whatever you do enjoy your teg and post pics if and when you get it. There is a 100 page thread speficly for that purpose.
BTW let me be the first to welcome you to the site. Its a great place with great people and a ton of information. I recomend you spend more time here than Team-integra.net. The people here are by in large more knowledgable.

well ofcourse no one really prefers it...ls drivers just delelop some false sense of pride in their non-vtec engines. *drives an ls*

hmm....if you want to go fast here's what i suggest:
sell your ls tranny and buy a b16 tranny...MAJOR IMPROVEMENT if you're sticking with all motor
cheap cold air intake system
ditch the stock intake manifold and get a skunk2 intake manifold
send in your stock TB to a local H-T member The New Spaceballs to have him port it to 84mm for $100
some decent suspension with Lcon traction bars and itr rear sway bar.
this should be close to the $1500 range for ya and will definately be faster than any other setup for the price, excluding nitrous.

ok heres the setup for you for 1500 bucks and down.
-crower 403 cams
-crower dual valve springs and retainers
-skunk2 intake manifold
-intake
-headers
-exhaust
-stage 1 clutch
this setup right here will have you running about 150-165 WHP depending on how you tune it.
this is IMO the best setup for the LS motor for price and power.
depending on how you drive you can beat b16's and mildly tuned gsr's.
but thats just my .02

that all cost a little bit more than 1500. i/h/e will run you about 700 if u get a cheap intake and get some good prices on other things. the whole thing with the cams is that you have to put aside a decent amount of money to get it all installed. shops arent cheap. and if you do it alone it will still cost aorund 3-400 bucks on all the things u need to buy. i suggest that u do ur basic i/h/e and then if u dont come into any more money then go with suspension.

Ignorance is bliss, huh?
I drive a fairly built LS that is substantially faster than many built gsrs, itrs, etc. AND, I have a much more usable powerband.
VTEC isn't the be all to end all - the main advantage to a vtec motor is the head's flow rate, not the fact that it has vtec (which is essentially just there to run a larger cam profile while maintaining good streetability).
Yes -it's not cheap to build a fast LS, mainly because you need to dump a fair bit of cash into porting the head, BUT, you don't have the initial cost of running out to buy a vtec motor.
Let me ask you this - you are so quick to bash non vtec motors, but have you ever driven (or even ridden in) a built, high compression, big cammed, short geared, ported LS? How about a B20?

Thank you!!!
I like my LS, i will admit that the tranny is not the best, but the motor is just fine. I think the biggest problem with LS is the fact alot of people dont know how to build them correct. Too much lego going on. The GSR will preform very well with just minor bolt-on's. Where the LS needs a bit more that just bolt-on's to really come alive.
I would be willing to say that if you took an LS did a minor port and polish, mild cams, and a good tune. Most GSR owners would be pretty impressed.
Now to step off my soap box.......
If you only have $1500 do what you think is best. Keep the LS untill you blow it up and then think about going GSR. I love my LS. I cant wait to get everything all bolted back togher and get my little LS running again. Then its off to the Auto-X!!!!

Save up $1500 more and get a GSR engine/tranny
Your going to spend a lot of money trying to be a decent all-motor LS. Most likely your going to even want more power and wished you started with at least a GSR motor
