Blown Fork Seal
After working on my bike for about 1 month I've been riding it for 3 days now and guess what? On my way home i noticed oil leaking out of the shock. so yeah, !@#$!!!!!!! To make things worse, im super short on $ right now and cant afford $200 to have them rebuilt. Ive herd its easy to change fork seals, but have never done it. the bike is a 99' 900RR im not a complete idiot, rebuilt the engine on my last bike with nothing but the torque specs. but like i said i have NEVER done forks. if i do it myself, how much $ will i need from beginning to end? i don't have a repair manual either. and no i don't do wheelies but the guy who had the bike before me did.
Sounds like you're mechanically inclined so just get a manual and it shouldnt be hard. You will probably need a fork cap tool to get into the tubes they're like ~30 bucks. Just be careful when bedding the new seals and you'll be alight.
The basic process goes take the springs out, drain the fluid, then pull the forks apart and the seals should come out. Take the new seals, oil them up, and you have to be carefull bedding them so you do not rip the seal. Then you can drive the seals back in. A pvc pipe cut in half will come in handy. Most importantly make sure you keep those tubes clean and not scratched up. Some bikes you dont have to take the forks apart, like the r6. Not sure about your bike though.
As for actual parts cost it'll be like 30-35 bucks. Check http://www.ronayers.com
