How true is the rumor that NHRA officials are going to ban the use of external oil pumps in the SFWD class

I hear you on that one - more events cause our car is setup to the strictest rules

what will happen if they do outlaw it...weight penalty or no running at all
i mean i know there are cars outthere that will be effected, i think Oaks Racing runs the peterson pump and with the power they make i know it will effect them

I spoke with the NHRA yesterday & they told me that one of the reasons they dont like the extrernal oil pumps is b/c they want everyone to be able to race & this class stay affordable so that it wont be expensive for us to race.

That makes no sence because the class is all ready pretty costly. Common a $1200 piece that will improve the reliability of your motor is worth it. I know i would rather spend the money on the oil pump rather than risk thousands on a stock oil pump failing. Just my opinion. I know there is no way in hell i will take my oil pump off to run nhra...

It's a definite NO NO on the external pump,I was on the phone with them for an hour yesterday, and they said definitly not.
They did say that they will keep a record of any racers in SFWD that lost motors due to pump failure this season, that way they can make a ruling for next season.
GOOD LUCK GUYS....

Rule changes are part of racing... They are made to keep things safe and as fair as possible... I understand some people are not happy with some rule changes, but dont bitch about it, fix it and keep racing!...

Why do you run a pump for your turbo? But no I dont think this applys to that. I agree it sucks. I dont think it will make cars faster but will save us from breaking **** saving us money in the long run.
I have not given up hope yet that NHRA will allow us to run with the dry sump - Jim Skelly informed me he would get the group together and try to get a ruling by the end of the week.
If your Dry Sump system is installed correctly it is safe from oil spills - and this is what the tech lanes are for - if someone installs a half *** set up they shouldn't be able to race. This is all about reliable safe horsepower. We checked our crank bearnings at the end of the season and they were like new. A well oiled engine will have less chance of spitting all over the track - these systems are good for cars that intend on running 9-10 second 1/4 miles.

Turbo is mounted extremely low due to the nature of the manifold.

I hope in my previous comment i didnt sound like a dick, i just kinda get alittle tired of hearing alot of bitching every time there is a rule change...
back to the subject... I think the reason behind the rule is because if a leak happens with that system it will create a much bigger mess on the track than a stock system since the stock system is internal...
If they are allowed, which i'm in favor of, i think there should be a minor weight penalty for using the system, and the system must be inspected by tech inspectors to ensure proper installation at each event...
