Thumbless in Richmond!
I wrecked my bike this summer and lost my right thumb, matter of fact I'm real luck to be alive. I know now though to always wear my leather jacket, gloves, and at least some jeans. After I wrecked the only things I had left on were my shorts and my helmet. Shoes, socks, and both shirts gone (along with a whole hell of alot of skin, oh yeah and my thumb). My left ankle was broken and ground down to the bone. It happened on July 15, 2001 and the road rash on my knee and ankle are still not completely healed. Oh well guess I won't be so stupid next time.

AT LEAST that much! Preferrably a real motorcycle jacket with armor, thick full-shank gloves with armor, and leather boots. Yeah, some of that stuff is expensive, but it makes a huge difference when you hit the pavement. Think about all the pain and discomfort you experienced, then think about how probably half (or more) of it could've been avoided if you wore proper cycle gear...
Sorry to hear about your wreck. I'm not trying to preach. But stories like these are exactly why I won't even sit on a *parked* motorcycle without wearing ALL the safety gear. Especially here in Richmond, where way too many people drive like idiots anyway.

Sorry to hear about that. I cant remember the amount if times i have seen people running up and down Broad St and the 'Slip' dropping the clutch whilst wearing next to nothing. Yes, its hot, yes your Oakley's are cool and no, the road hasnt got a concience when it comes ot grinding raw fleah from bones.
Take this mans advice, and from someone who has seen a mate look like raw steak. No-one is cool in ER.

It does suck... BUT i dont feel sorry for you at all... if you only ride with a helmet, shorts and shoes, you should expect to get hurt. Atleast you learned your lesson.

Sorry to hear about such an experience, and I hope the healing continues to go well.
