Default 2002 ITR EXPO - AND FREE STUFF

OK I Lied NO Free Stuff , But please read on.

I would like everyone to post their opinion in this post as to why or why not they will attend the Expo. This way If there is a 2003 Expo we can make sure we dont have the same problems.

Now I know last year alot of East coast people Complained that It was to large of a drive to CA for EXPO 01, Now the farthest any East coaster has to drive is about 12-15 hours (Not Bad at all). And its about 18-24 hours for most west coasters. So Why last year did we have so much interest and then a Low turnout and This year, it seems we have barely any interest at all?

Now I can see that Some people Might have a problem with the Expo 02 Being after the weekend instead of During it, BUT That Monday is Memorial Day and It would be worth the vacation time to make this event.

Enjoy your car, Drive it, take it to its original home (The Track), Come out and meet fellow ITR Owners and make this event happen.

Again PLEASE Post your opinions and comments as to why or why Not you'll attend.

At a time of economic decline and career instability, I cannot justify the costs that would be incurred in the traveling.

And I aint got no money...

I will sell my body to go...but it aint worth enough.

Mike, I would love to attend...but as I mentioned during the original scheduling of the '02 Expo, the timing (late May) could not be worse. As a full time student, I have finals all week (May 21-25) and that makes it impossible for me to attend with my car... While a plane trip is an option, I think the associated costs would far outweigh the enjoyment of attending without a car to drive. As far as the lack of interest in general...I think it comes back to the school thing. Seems like there are A LOT of people on here in their early and mid twenties, and I know that most of them are also students...

I will attend because:

1. I am looking forward to driving my ITR on a real racetrack (and a fun one, at that).

2. I am looking forward to going to an event where there are a $h!tload of ITR's (whether there are twenty or forty or sixty of them).

3. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of the people I've been hanging out with here on h-t.com (and sitting around chatting in the lobby of the hotel at all hours and having meals together).

This is going to be the biggest ITR event of the year, and (hopefully) the only all-ITR event of the year. I wouldn't miss it for the world!

Still undecided. Issues include price, 20 hour drive and trying to gather a Florida caravan.

i am going simply because more racing =

for the budget racer the fee can break some1's bank, maybe in the future this can be offered in 1 day schedule so that people that can only afford to go one day can do so.

Can't justify the cost. Been out of work for six months now. It's really tough to get a job in the tech field in the SF bay area. Plus I had to classify my R as a low mileage car so the insurance will go down, I have to report my mileage every few months. It is either that or sell the R, which is not an option.

The best reason for me attending...

Enjoy your car, Drive it, take it to its original home (The Track)
The other reason I'm attending. I felt extremely bad not being able to attend last time. However, I could not as my company (BellSouth) was being threatened with a technician strike. What that means is that if the technician union is unhappy with their new contract, they have the option of striking. What happens in that case is the management personnel, which includes myself, is forced to be on call. This is why I could not attend last year, even though I would have despite the long drive.

Come out and meet fellow ITR Owners and make this event happen.
Something that does concern me is location. It appears that very few, if any, west coast owners desire to come to the event this year. What happens when it's on the east coast next year? (ie: Watkins Glen, VIR, etc) THAT is what makes me nervous. I feel the Expo is a great idea to not only experience your car's heritage, but also to meet other owners and share ideas/thoughts amongst ourselves. It's a tradition that I truly hope will continue...

Jason- who like before, can't wait until the 2002 EXPO, and hopes it will continue in the future

I'd love to attend but will have trouble getting away from work during that time - combine that with the fact that I'll have a new 3 month old baby at the time and it isn't looking good for this year.

I'm hoping htere is a 2003 event because I am already planning on attending...

I organize a bunch of ITR owners in the NYC Area (our club is called R-speed) and it seems that the main reasons for the lack of interest:

1. Cost
2. Time off from work/school
3. Fright of damage to car on track
4. Mileage
5. Most of us probably won't have a car in May, the way thefts are going

I see racing clubs in your sig...

Please explain why, if you have experience, would you be worried about losing your car on track?

I guess my question is...

Why have a race car, if you don't use it?

I am seriously considering going as well but am concerned about racing on the track. That is something that I have never done before. Taking the time off from work, money, and travel is nothing. I just don't want to look stupid out there having no idea what I am doing.

Please...for those of you who are afraid they're going to wreck their ITR on the roadcourse, please read this thread!!!

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=114337

Be careful out there and you will be fine. DO NOT try to drive your ITR ***** out and you will be fine. The instructors are they to help teach you how to drive out there. THIS IS NOT A RACE FOLKS!

Remember, this isn't racing. This will be MUCH, MUCH less competitive than an autox. All cars can only pass with the permission of the car in front of them. You don't have to worry about going wheel to wheel with people in tight spots.

Personally, I'm going for several reasons:

1) I drove out to Gingerman last year to see all the Chicago R's again, and I had a blast. There was 10 or 11 of us (r's), and it was a ton of fun.

2) I did my first driving school at Gingerman, and so far, I haven't been to another track where I feel so comfortable.

3) I think it would be a lot of fun to get this many R's together to just hang out when we aren't driving.

I'm just working on getting the time off because its on a Monday and Tuesday and its about 1300 miles away. I think I can get the rest of the week off. If so then I'm going to go.

I am not sure simply because I do not know if I will be back in Chicago for the summer or not. I need to see where I end up working for the summer before I throw down $300 for the Expo. I'd had to loose the money because of a conflict or something.

I also wanted to point out for your $300 fee you get 2 full days of track time AND that includes a banquet dinner. We will get more track time than we can handle. Most of the HPCCC roadcourse events I've been to @ Heartland Park (Topeka, KS) were joined with IT racing. We got two 30 min sessions per day. We won't have to worry about sharing the track for the day for something like that = more track time.

For whoever is interested in ONLY one day of tracktime (because of financial reasons), I would contact Wes (aka White Dragon) at: wmtyper@hotmail.com He might be able to set it up for you.

-Todd

No one was born knowing how to drive. The first session you may be lost a little bit. But with the help of the instructor, and him test-driving your car showing how the turns should be taken, you would figure your way out.

That is refreshing. I am quite sure that I would be fine but I was just concerned about being one of the few that has never been on a road course before.

First, I'll say that I don't count, no ITR here.. buuuttt..

Reasons why I woouldn't go:
1. $$, I'm in enough debt as it is.
2. "long" drive without a caravan/passanger.

Reasons why I would go:
1. Fun
2. To meet some other people
3. To drive on the track (assuming you let non-itr's in)
4. To drive on the track
5. To drive on the track
6. To drive on the track
7. To drive on the track
8. I'm from northern ohio so it would be interesting to visit da old home town.

In all reality, I'm most likely going anyways. The one thing that might really hold me back from going is that I plan on selling the integra. So, even if I do go, I might not take the teg, and might instead just fly up or ride with someone else. I've driven on the track enough, and while I love to do it, I can miss it considering that I do want SOME resale value in my car (after I take the cage out of course! lol) Maybe I'll rent a Camaro Vert! lol Pimping on G'man in a Camaro v6 auto baby!

-Dave, who was drinking a bit too much last night.
