Default Wiring for stock radio

Does anyone know where I find out what all of the wires do in a wiring harness on the stock head unit? I want to wire in a Hard drive based MP3 player such that inputs for a acura changer/tape player can be used and this input can be selected using the input selection button on the head unit.

I think to do what you want to do, you will have to get the din cable from a cdchanger and splice into those wires.

I haven't seen the back of the head unit. Does the Din Cable from the changer have a have its own separate connection where the audio inputs from changer enter the head unit?

have fun, i dont know if what you are planning is going to work...you would have to somehow wire the din cable into the hard drive based unit...so you would need a power, memory, ground, and how do you plan to play the sound over the din cable...i guess if the hard drive unit had rca outs you could use that, but dont know

good luck though...keep us updated

I found a site that sells adapters and the a clarion one that that has RCA connectors which will connect to the MP3 player nicely but I still have one question. How does the head unit know when there is something connected to the din plug so that it will switch to it when "CD" button is pressed.

I used too, couple of years ago. But I did mostly custom auto alarms, and basic head units, speakers, and amps.
Honda wiring has been pretty consistant since 1986.

You can go to your local car audio store and buy the din cable adaptor that allows the Alpine Cd changer to work in our cars. I had written down the wires for the din cable, but I have since lost it. Try asking the Car audio installation guys, they may have it.

I am not 100% sure but the power(or ground) comes from the head unit through the din cable to the Changer and the changer sends the signal back to the unit, letting the head unit change over when the cd button is pressed.
