Default Knock sensor removal

I currently have an OBD1 B16A sitting in my closet (don't ask). I'm reading up on the swap before I do it later this year (this is not a swap question). I read alot of knock sensor this, knock sensor that and decide to have a look at mine. The little black plastic part just slides off of the metal fitting that sits in the block. I suppose this means it's broken. After messing with it a bit, it doesn't appear that I am immediately able to remove it, is there a special method or am I not applying enough force?

Also, if it needs to be replaced, does OBD series have any bearing for any odd reason? Or can I go in and say I have a 99 Civic Si to avoid confusion?

Thanks for the pic!

The black part just slides off. It weighs no more than a ounce. It doesn't seem firmly attached at all, like normal driving would make it just fall off so I figure that something is wrong. It I need to put a new one in, are any special tools required?

So what do I ask for at the Honda Dealer b/c they are telling me that DOHC del Sols didn't have them. I thought of giong to the Acura Dealer and asking for a knock sensor from a 94-95 GSR, that would work right? Or would any years work, 94-01? I figured I'd stay same OBD to minimize weird wiring issues.

your dealership has no clue what the hell they are talking about because i am running a jdm p30 which is the same ecu that is in the usdm del sol but without the emissions. get one for a 99-00 si if they are still being retarded . that is what i have i think

you do know that the knock sensor will be ridiculously expensive? as in, you're better off converting to obd1

MIght have one for sale, let me know..

Anyways, you should have it since what it is it listing to the motor and tell the ECU to retard the timing if your car miss fire. Without it, you probaby will get a CEL light on. CEL mean on power

If you know the resistance of the sensor, you can replace it with a resistor. That means no sensor and no CEL.

ya put a resistor on there and then get an aftermarket knock sensor, with a display if you worried about it

he said he had a ob1 16a sir2 off the bat which uses the p30 stock but you can use a p28 which eliminates the knock sensor but there's not really a point to do it for a sensor unless your gonna chip it and i got a knock sensor off someone for 20 bucks so they are around but putting an after market one or a resistor isn't a bad idea. if i was you i would just put up a thread in classifieds for now.

some periods would have been nice.

decide what ECU you want to run 1st before you buy the sensor. if you're going to be running a chipped p28, you won't need the sensor. if you're running any dohc vtec ecu, you will.

I'm going to run the P30 that came with it, it's easiest that way as I already have the ECU. I don't mind running a KS, I just want to make things go smoothly from the get-go and minimalize post-swap surprises.
