Does Sears carry the tool ?
The tool I'm talking about is the 10mm for doing the vavle adjustments, I need to get it quickly and to find a SnapOn truck would be a lost cause around here.
Is there hope in the Sears store? Or anyway of looking it up on their website?
Thanks for the help!
PS does anystore carry this tool?

i remember someone just bent a craftsman tool by heating it up then bending it the way he wanted it. IT was cool. I have yet to try it, but i will. Just adjust it with out it.. You might take longer the first time, but there after, you'll be ok. but to answer your questioin, I don't think they have it. You can check. but i couldn't find it at my sears. Good luck man and have fun and take your time

No. that particular tool is only available thru snap on.
I have done valve adjsutments without them tho.
2 options:
1:leave the nut as tight as possible and still be able to turn the screw then tighten
down when done.
2:get a crow's foot. its a tight fit, but it does work.

don't need anything but a 10mm socket and a screwdriver, and some tappets of course. Take a measurement first (sometimes, you'll be in spec from the start)...loosen the nut, tighten it as GENTLY as counts as being tightened (still easy to move the screw, but not totally free), adjust tight or loose as required by the measurement (anticipate where you're going to be, it's pointless to set it in spec and then tighten obviously...if it's .007 and you want .006, turn the driver a few degrees.)...then torque it down and take a measurement...eventually you'll hit your goal with great regularity. And it doesn't require any toolz0rs.
just get the snap on one, its $50 , makes life so much easier. I just got one, and it beats using a socket and a screwdriver anyday. Its well worth the money, just charge someone to adjust their valves.
takes me about 30 mins without the bluepoint(snapon) tool.
With the tool takes me 10

Seriously though, what are the implications if a valve adjustment is not done correctly?

Nice and loud tapping, you will know if its not right. I rememeber doing my first one...I was all done..turned the engine on and it sounds like ! I didnt know how much drag there wa supposed to be with the feeler gauge...most thing I read said "slight" but Ive heard its more like VERY tight drag...at least thats the way I do it now. I usually double check my self also by trying to insert the next bigger size in...if it doesnt fit..Im good to go
Yeah! My tool which was ordered in early December will arrive today if the forgetful Snap-On tool man doesn't forget it (again). Looking forward to thumbing my nose at the dealer after they raped me on the last valve adjustment ($130)

I believe the tool is manufactured by a single company:
EMPI which happens to be in SoCal (OC I think)
Here are various URL's to places that sell the tools (SnapOn, MatCo, and generic)
I believe they are all identical...

it always takes me 2-3 hours (total) when i adjust it. mainly because I double check everything. And its a hassle for me without the snap on tool.. But extra time is ok as long as i'm sure its done perfect..

I'm curious. Occasionaly I see the Snap-On trunk drive by my work. Am I really supposed to chase down the truck?

I doubt they have it in the truck. I think they have to special order it and knowing these Snap-on truck guys it might take about two to three weeks to get it if the guy does the errand.
To catch one of these trucks, check first with some mechanic shop around your neighborhood or a service place like Midas, tire places, or car dealers. Usually the guys that work in those places have a weekly account to pay and the Snap-on guy is always collecting money or selling tools. Ask them if they have a truck account with Snap-on.
