B18c1 vs. b18c (jdm gsr)
optional lsd tranny....but then u could change out to any Bseries tranny with LSD
higher compression on jdm gsr...(10.6cr)
and it doesnt say "1" on the engine block code

jdm = higher compression, slightly higher hp (less restriction, more pollution) and dont forget the fact that is jDm y0!
Since you live in cali though, i would highly reccomend the usdm b18c1 for emissions, as stated above. If you do get the jdm one, u will basically have to convert it over to usdm settings..ecu, throttle body (also stated above)and some other things.
and for the newbs who were posting about r, gsr thing:
JDM b18c-gsr(SiR-G) = b18c on the block with p72 stamped on the head
JDM b18c-r = b18c on the block with p73 stamped on the head.
There are also other visual differences such as intake, intake manifold, etc..

both JDM B18C's are either GSR, or ITR... the only way to reconize the differance, are the intake manifolds, and the head stamps, P73 ITR, or P72 GSR. bottom ends are the same.

I sure as hell wish the GSR's didnt come with the butterfly bullshit, even though its been proven great for stock setups and mild builds. The more and more I read on them, they ******* blow. Too restrictive. I think its time for skunk2 or victorx.
when there's a number in the code like b18c1, b16a2, h22a1 its a usdm motor if u don't see a number after the letter in the code it's a jdm motor. for jdm type r and gsr motors both are coded b18c

i wish back then, i had a camera, but ive seen some really weird stamped blocks... some actually blank except for a serial number.
in fact, i still have one. let me see if i can find a pic.

looks 'chopped to me. im sure there might have been factory error where stamps were forgotten. you could even buy your own metal stamping set and stamp "m4dd tit3 jDm y0" on it

yep yep he's right, JDM Motors they do not have a number infront of it as in b16a2-a3 b18c1-c5 which are USDM
JDM motors are b16a, b18c, b16b h22a....and so forth
