Default Cable shift to direct rod type shifting.

In many sport compact drag cars, the shifting mechanism usually consists of using stock components to actually shift the tranny. Alot of times, these mechanisms are cable operated and as some of you know, cable style shifting isn't always the preferable way to go. For people using the B-series trans, it is easy, nothing needed. But for guys using the H-series, K-series or in my case, a Mazda transmission, we have to rely on cable operation for shifting, well we used to at least.

I just finished up a prototype shifting mechanism that will allow me to use rod type shifting in my race car. This type of shifter is much more accurate, more solid and more reliable when pounding on the shifter between gears.

The pics are of the shifter, but it is not yet completed. I am going to adapt it to the car tomorrow and finish it up. I will be making these units available as soon as this prototype is completed and tested. Let me know what you think and please ask any questions

I'm currently facing a dilema with this right now. On Sindicate's car, with the K series, the oem calbes are too short. I was looking through a Morse cable catalog and they've got some really nice heavy duty cables that I was thinking about using. They can make them custom length and with various ends on them. Anyone tried anything like that?

looks very nice.. and very original.. great work Golden eagle! However it doesnt matter what you use to actuate a clutch. if its a cable, a rod, a chain, or a rope hell even your arm for all i care... all your doing is actuating the clutch.. thats it. no rocket science behind that. when i raced my H series I shifted at 10krpm all day long no problems with my cables. I dont see skunk2, or other high end race teams using cable linkages have problems either.. Its all how you setup the car. just my 2.5 cents.. im not doggin on this aewsome peice of work. IN fact i think whoever designed did a good job!! just stating my point of view on myths i see floating around this board.

MHRacing-310,
This is not to engage the clutch. This is to select the gears. Totally different than what you are thinking

Thanks for the good words guys. I will have more pics soon.

Looks similar to the piece from Avid. They have a rod style shifter that eliminates the cable and they have it patent pending on it, I think they already have it for H, K - series. But that looks really nice.

Give us a call at 866-507-2843. We've got the H-series already in stock and the K-series is just on backorder, but should have stock on it soon.

I did something similar to this a few years ago when one of my cables busted. I had beefier ones made with the ends very similar to OEM. Due to the different length of the ends (vs stock) I had to design a custom bracket to connect the cables to the tranny, but other than that they work great!

looks good GE..........i personally like cable shifting for everyday driving around, but it kinda sucks when you're trying to go fast. if i was a k guy, i'd definitely look into it

Vince, how long is the shift **** going to be? If it's a normal shift ****, it doesn't look like you'll have too much leverage there, or is there something i'm missing? Looks like very short throw but with very little leverage?

p.s. I still need those cam gears, I can never get you on the phone!!! lol

A long shifter screws into the exposed threaded end.
