year doesn't matter dude.
GS/SE/LS/RS = no VTEC (stock)
GS-R/Type-R = VTEC
They're all DOHC's, and they're all b series 1.8L with the exception of 92-93 GS-R's (still a DOHC b series, but 1.7L instead)

Only the Integra GS-R and Type-R have VTEC (not Vtech). The only Civics that came with VTEC are, EX, VX & HX(VTEC-E) and SI. I cant say that I have ever put a VTEC sticker on a non VTEC car.

now my cousin is thinking of returning the car since the owner lied! thanks for your help guys. He saw this car that he wants to buy and asked the same ques. This is what the reply was.."i called the owner, and checked sources over the internet, everything is telling me it is a vtec, i looked in the engine bay, and it reads 1.8 liter vtec....so i
guess it is a vted, which is a great thing, v tec is much faster."
This is the VIN number : JH4DC4468SS039472
Which place designates that it is a vtec? thanks for your help

how much cash did he pay for this car that supposedly had vtec? I really dont think that hes gonna be able to return a car to a private dealer without having to take him to court. it just isnt that easy. he needs to read more and know the signs. it sounds like this kid knows absolutley nothing about cars and that is not a good combination when ur shopping for a car from a private dealer
nah the guy is all stressed cuz he knows he falsly said it was a vtec when it isnt. Was talking about giving money back etc. So what about this other integra? Yeah my cousin whos not so much a kid even tho acts like one lol...he doesnt know much about cars and I try walking him thru it but being in different states makes it hard. I can tell if i saw the car if it had the vtec solenoid etc etc but am not sure on vin numbers etc. So I turn to you guys!
Its the dealer he bought it from whos talking about giving sum money back etc BTW he paid 4000 , integra SE with 95,000 miles

Very nice breakdown
I didn't know ho to read the VIN untill now.
Check under the upper rad hose, on the block, you'll see a flat spot. On that spot there will we either b18b or b18c. Look at that spot if it is b18c then it is VTEC. Also look at the head, there will be a little barrel looking thing next to the distributor. If that is there then you have VTEC, the little barrel is your VTEC solinoid. Get pics of the motor and we'll tell you if it is VTEC, it is hard to explain if you don't know what you are looking for.

doesnt VTEC stand for...
Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control ?
makes more sense why that would be the acronym (every other word capital) and it sounds like it makes more sense too
