Default Girlfriend shows intrest....

In the past couple weeks my girlfriend has shown a desire to ride not just be ridden. So we went to a few showrooms to look at possible bikes for her. She sat on the SV-1000 and really liked it, I told her i don't think she needs a 1000cc bike for her first bike. Shes very agressive for a woman so i can see why she would want that but she would have more fun on a smaller bike (at least thats my opinion). This will be her first bike, she doesn't want to spend alot of money, but she wants to get the best bang for her buck (and some of that money is mine), I told her that its almost certain she will end up knocking it over by accident or something when she is first learnign to ride. She will be taking the same motorcycle safety course i took. right now shes considering the SV-650 the SV-1000 and the Ninja 500r she likes the look of the SV's much more than the ninja but she likes the seat on the ninja. What do you guys figure is the best all around bike for mostly city riding, some weekend twisties with me and possible a track day or 2 with me.....Thanks alot guys.

beginning girls ought to try the 250 kawi's; maybe even the 500r.

The duck im not so sure about....it might be cheap to buy but come maintaince and stuff its going to be a pain in the ***, I'll look into it though, I havn't heard alot of good stuff from duck owners and there is no dealers anywhere near here.........with the SV i know i can get parts cheap and easily....Im sure same goes for ninja. I think we'll stick with the jap bikes, thanks though scarey Eglovr you say go kawi ?? big suprise

edit : the duck is defently a nice looking bike though. and my girl really likes the undertail....

The SV650 is a great bike with tons of spares. If she doesn't mind used, then the F3/4/4i CBRs are vey capable motorcycles. An EX250 or 500 are also nice, but they're not for everyone. The 250 might be the best choice for her, since she can find one for relatively cheap. Tell her insurance is cheaper on a smaller-displacement bike. Usually that helps make the decision for which bike to get.

Have her check out the riding position, too, not just the seat itself. The seat can be easily replaced (Corbin, Sargent, custom...).

Thanks....Yeh we're also looking at one year old SV's cause you can get them REALLY cheap....Which would make buying the duck very tricky as ive never seen one of those in person, I think she really wants something newer than an f3 though as most of them have alot of mileage and she does plan to keep the bike for 2-3 years before shes ready to upgrade....We'll also checkout the 250s we are going to head back to another dealership today and look around and have her sit on everything, alot of places here don't sell 250's as they don't sell very well and were about 7 hours from any major cities.....we'll also look into insurance differnces between the 250 and 500-600, thanks!

i know right! but if its gonna go down, it may as well be a kawi . save the sv for when she's got some experience under her belt.

Heheh, you guys!! well she likes the naked bikes cause she is intrested in posing topless with a naked bike.....I think the SV-650 is something she could really grow into..do you guys agree? I know theres quite a few guys on here that ride them, what do you guys think, lots of room for grown even for her after 2 years or so of riding..??

There is tons of room for growth on the SV (although some people think they have outgrown it, even though they have not even come close to utilizing the bike to it's true capacity), I kept mine even though I bought another bike. Now it's gonna be my track tool.

Edit: Oh yeah, the 1000 for a first bike is a bad idea...

Where are you located? I could let my SV go for the right price.

That's why you PM us links to them.... duh!

My honest opinion is get her an SV and one you don't have to pay for. I lived with my girl since age 21 but paying for part of her bike is just a bad idea. Then again, I wouldn't consider paying to part of my wife's next car... haha.

Are you talking SV650 or SV650S? You mentioned she liked naked but then also said she likes the SV1000S which only comes in the S version. So, does she like the naked (no fairing) look or the half fairings?

If you value her life, get her a Ninja 250. The 650, or 1000 is just a death wish for an inexperienced rider.
