Default GSR won't start for ~10 minutes after a big ride.

Hey techs,

I need my light shed on an issue... I have 98 Teg GSR and since a little while.. when I give it a big ride... like 20-30 minutes often in the vtech, when I turn it off, if I try to start it again I cant... I have to wait from 5 to 15 minutes before I can start it again...

Some people told me it's probably the coil in the distributor... but before that, just to make sure, I changed my spark plugs and my wires.. but not the coil yet..

One more thing, it doesnt seem to do it since the winter started (maybe because its cold and the engine doesnt get as hot?)

When the problem occurs, I have no check engine... when I try to start it everything sounds absolutely normal, but just wont start. When I ride, everything is top notch...

Is it really the coil?

Thanks in advance.

get rid of that coil and also change the ignitor
get the msd coil but not the complete set up

He doesn't need an MSD coil at all.

Just replace the worn out parts and done.

to my preference the msd coil sits in oil to keep it cool
last longer than the stock coil

maybe the fuel pump relay as well? do you hear the fuel pump kick on before you crank after a long ride? if you do, then i would definitely say coil as well, but just in case it might be something you want to check

i have that same problem on my 99 LS with 66,000 miles. I hear a click one time after i turn the key all the way. I have waited up to 35 minutes before it started in this cold weather and at night.
Its really frustrating to just sit in your car and wait and wait and wait.....

I took it to a mechanic and he said its probably the starter thats going bad.

well next time that happens try to give the starter a
couple of wacks maybe the solenoid is getting stuck
cause you do hear the clicks.
in the other case the engine cranks but no start.

Mrob91GS, if it would be the fuel pump relay... I would feel something wrong when Im driving as well right? .. Just wondering..

Thanks a lot guys, Ill get a new coil..

But last question regarding this, is it worth changing the complete distributor? Most of my friends tell me I should just to change the coil... but I'd rather have a honda-tech's advice

Thanks for your time,

Rock L

http://www.hondadistributors.net
best price all around for new distributors $200 over

coil price somewhere above $50
ignitor same

its really up to you on this.....

as for the starter just look straight down where the distributor is
and you will see it. attached to the tranny.

for the fuel main relay being not good it will be hard to start in the mornings
