Default If you dont go full throttle often...is that bad for your car?

I have a 2000 Acura Integra GSR....jus bought it....and I was talking to my friend earlier today...and I was telling him that im gonna baby the motor and im not gonna floor the car or go full throttle or go into the rpm of vtec...well you get the point...and he said that if i dont go full throttle for a long time...that its bad for the engine..because he said you need to just let it rip sometimes just so everythings working well and that everything gets oiled up or whatever...is he making sense? If i dont floor my car for a couple months, is that bad?

i don't know the answer to your question, but, whats the point of buying a GSR if you never plan to open it up?

Man if you're getting a GS-R, at least enjoy it. I've been driving my GS-R for over 100K miles now, nearly 200K miles on the car/engine/tranny, and I open it up pretty much every single day. I usually get up to at least 7000 RPM at least once a day, definitely get up into VTEC every day. The engine was designed to play in that RPM range, might as well enjoy it.

But yeah winding it out regularly helps keep carbon buildup to a minimum. Usually the cars you hear about going back to the dealer w/ sludge and/or carbon build-up problems are driven by those people who never put their foot in it every once in awhile.

tell your friend to suck your nuts...your car, so you could do whatever you want to do with it. Baby it, but like the others have said, once in a while, rip on it just to enjoy having a "GSR".

Going to redline is like gettin drunk...it's fun as hell but if you do it too often your taking years off your life. That's the best analogy i have.

PatrickGSR said it the best

intake manifold should make ur vtec louder, but intake would probably be the easiest. if u open it up all the time, i hear it cleans out your fuel injectors.

Sorry to promote this thread jack, but with my GS-R, the intake didn't do much at all. Sure it was louder but I still could not hear VTEC at all. My A'PEXi N1 exhaust helped, but it was my 2.5" header and cat that made the biggest difference in sound. I get off on crossover now.

Man i start to feel ancy when Im in peoples cars who have vtec motors, or any decent motor, and they never open it up. Why swap a motor, or put $$ into your motor, or buy a GSR and not open it a least once a week or so!! You shoulda saved some pennies and bought a ls...less chance of theft too

Not really, unless you put injector cleaner into the fuel tank, then the injectors are just spraying fuel like always, whether you wind out the revs or not.

What it can do (going into the upper RPM range) is keep carbon from building up as much inside the combustion chamber. That's if you do it pretty frequently.
