Getting the bug again.
Wtf is going on? I've had my SV for only a few months, and I'm starting to get itchy about hopping on something faster.
Ngng's Ducati post started it. I started looking around on the internet for other bikes. 749s are a little out of my range, but a used F4i or 636 (or even a Gixxer 600/750) might be do-able.
Am I just out of my mind? Or is this natural? I love my SV, but it really does feel slow, and the way it shakes under hard acceleration kinda spooks me.

same thing happend to me. i sold it and bought my 929. i'm going to buy another sv as a trackbike, unless i can get a duc as a second bike. i loved my sv but my 929 feels more planted inthe corners and has a lot of power.
Learn to ride twisties and you wont worry so much about straight line acceleration and you'll see how well good your sv really is. The sv650 is a great bike. Maybe you should check your suspension if its shaking under hard acceleration or maybe you're holding on too tight.

I suppose you're right about the twisties, although that's what I have an ITR for. Much safer to "drag a knee" in a car!
Suspension on the SV hasn't been touched, and I have a pretty relaxed hold. I just stopped being awed by the acceleration of the bike, the way I was when I bought it. I understand why people would want something like an R1 or ZX-10, whereas before I did not see the point of those bikes.

I thought the SV had plenty of grunt. I think the main difference is the delivery of power.
Sport Rider -
2003 SV650S 72.5hp@8,750 & 47.2tq@7,250
2001 F4i 95.5hp@12,500 & 42.6tq@10,250
Look at the rpms. I think what you want is a higher revving bike. Not necessarily more power.

I don't know you well enough to tell you if you're just being impulsive or you're legitimately unhappy. It sounds like you're having a serious I4/V-Twin crisis either way. You may want something that winds a little higher but only you know that. All motors tire as they age and I'm sure yours is no different. I'm not saying you've lost 5hp or anything but I'm willing to bet it's a fraction of a second slower. You've also probably gotten a lot more comfortable on it so you're no longer experiencing that "holy ****" feeling you did when you just started out. I say stick with it for the next season and then make your decision but then again I may be partial.

As far as the age of the motor, it's only 1000 miles old?
It's probably just that I'm comfortable with it. As far as I4 vs. Vtwin goes, I actually prefer the twin. The one I've got revs high enough, but at 11K it's not doing anything it isn't doing at 8K. Just wish it were bigger and had more wind protection!

Yeah, that's true, I am sure. With $1000 in work, my bike would be a lot closer in performance to the bikes I am comparing it to. However, I don't know how much $$ I want to sink into it. You never recoup the value of your mods when you sell...

"The Itch!"
Many of us have it, the disease that controls us. I often ask my self, "why can't i like basket weaving?" It would be a lot cheaper then bikes and cars. Why am i eternally stuck like something that would drive me broke even if i was Gates? I guess its human nature that drives us, always wanting something better right? being like this is the only way humans have evolved from living in caves to having toaster ovens. believe me, You Will NEVER Be Satisfied With The Power Of The Bike You Have. You'll get a new one or some new parts that makes enough power to scare you but no matter what you will always want more. Isn't it sickening? My first bike was an 03' DRZ-400 which would hit the rev limiter at 108mph lol. when i first opened it up, i was in 2nd gear at about 7K feet above sea level. the way i look at it now is that the bike was a slow piece of !@#$. but at the time i was scared out of my mind! then i was doing it in first then i got down to sea level. 2 months later i got a 99' 900RR and any extra $ i have goes into the bike because its not fast enough. lol yesterday i bought a 520 chain conversion and went down on the gearing. i took it out and it was great! but its never enough and never will be...
I Have a D&D slip on and as many of you know a 900RR has resonators in the header to make it quieter so tonight i took out more packing from my pipe. now i have fiber glast in my upper lip! ouch

Hehe, do they need to start adding "Non-edible" stickers to the mufflers, just for you?
The ninja is getting a new 2+ sprocket shipped tomorrow. I've had the bike a week, I just can't help but change something.

find a Gsxr front end and sell your stock SV front. You can almost break even if you get a good deal on the GSXR front. You can also use a GSXR rear shock which is dirt cheap

Thanks for the info.
I know not much about car tech, and less about bike tech.

I agree. Since you only have 1k miles on it, start modding it. Or just spend all your money on track days

'04, standard version, yellow.
The point about trackdays is well taken, but I don't have full coverage (only liability and theft), and I'm pretty scared to go out and start dragging knees. Makes me think I will wad the bike up pretty quickly.
Plus, I don't have full leathers.

The bug has got me pretty bad, especially after seeing/hearing Chris' bike on Sunday. It doesn't help that my friend with an RC51 is pushing me all the time to get a bike..... I think I'm giving in soon....
