SCC - Ultimate Street Car Challenge
I got my copy of SCC yesterday and there it was, the results of the Ultimate Street Car Challenge. I didn't get to spend a lot of time reading the article, but did get to check out the results from the different tests and the overall winner.
The Ferrari F360 won, no suprise I guess, but rest of the results were interesting.
Marc Allen's ITR did exceptionally well on the skidpad (over 1.0g's 2nd) and on the track (3rd fastest) but otherwise didn't get very high marks. For instance, it had pretty lousy fuel economy, got crushed on the dyno (242whp), crushed at the dragstrip, etc., etc.
The biggest suprise was that a 5L mustang overall finished ahead of the ITR. That hurt (yeah I know I'm a little biased), but hey that platform dates back to the mid 70's and the engine to the mid 60's. Didn't expect that old detroit iron to do so well.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
fwiw-their site isn't updated to include the results of the test yet.

Didn't it have a Tubi exhaust too? What about the twin-engine Tiburon? Did that thing actually turn at all? Massive points to the owner of that vehicle for the impressive engineering feat he pulled off in the twin engines, twin transmissions etc.

All together now
"Mustang, Mustang, Mustang"

Remember, the Mustang aftermarket is HUGE, you can basically buy an entirely new suspension that has nothing in common with the (crappy) stock suspension. It's possible to be running around in a Mustang with a very modern suspension.
Did they say anything about the suspension at all, like the brand or what had been done to it?
Also, 242whp seems like a lot, what kind of 1/4 mile times did they get with that?

It's kind of a shame David Bernert had to drop out. I think his NSX would have given the Ferrari a serious run for its money. 500+hp.... Good looks. Not sure it would have been driveable on the auto-x course, but it would have cleaned up on the track.

I guess I risk being strung up for thinking it, but I've always been interested in driving a current generation Mustang with a quality suspension setup on it. I can't really get a feel for what it would be like...
I mean, look at the vast improvements that can be made to some Honda's that don't come well setup to start with...

Also would've been very interested in seeing how the Rafferty's Supra would've fared against such competition since it actually DOES handle well and has gobs of power too. Same with Jeff Glorioso's Vette.
The 360 also was $100,000 more than most of the other cars
So? It was worth ever penny I'm sure.

Yeah, would've been great to see Kent give it a go...his supra has the power and straightline acceleration to hang at the dyno and strip, plus he's got the skill and the car has the grip to outhandle most everything...I think it's kind of silly to have a dyno competition in a contest like this, at least it would have been a little more practical to have a power/weight or a hp/liter rating, rather than raw horses...kills the chances of a small lightweight car doing well overall.
What was the ITR's place overall? I gotta go grab that issue...

7) Skyline GTR

[edit] The Type R was only 0.03 seconds off the second place time of the Supra on the Road Course. Pretty impressive I thought.

4) Sentra
Details please!

I will say it got 2nd place in the gross-display-of-power catagory for doing a backwards burnout... heh!
They call a twin engine Tiburon a "street car?" Seems like a stretch.
