Default 99 Accord issues

Hi all,

I have a 99DX with 83,000 miles on it, and have noticed 2 separate noises

1. When reversing, a high pithed noise, is coming from the front passenger side wheel. Only when reversing.

2. When moving forward, a different high pitched sound (sounds like bearings) coming from what seems to be the same wheel well.

These 2 noises are very different, and easy to tell apart, however seem to be coming from the same area.

Any ideas? Thankyou in advance.

number 1 sounds like it is the typical reverse gear whine every manual tranny I've ever driven makes. not sure if that helps or not

number 2 could be wheel bearings. does it make a different pitch/volume as you turn one way or the other?

Brake pad indicator. Pull the wheel and check it.

When you were driving the car, did you happen to notice if the car is an AUTOMATIC or a 5SPEED ? ?

hahaha...

Its actually an auto. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

In relation to the different pitch/volume.....it sounds pretty much the same, regardless of what way the wheel is turning. I guess at slower speeds its alot more noticable from outside the car, however once you get to about 15mph, it tends to dissapear.

Thanks again for any input.

I bet you just got yourself a new muffler .. either from midas or meineke..
if you did there is protector plate, in the back that tend to vibrates when you put the car in reverse- check that out. ..
Good luck..

Check the inner CV joints where they go into the differential, look for trans fluid seeping or excess play when shaking the inner joint up and down. There was a bunch of those trannies that had bad differential bearings. There is some kind of warranty extension about it, but I'm not sure of the VIN range.
