Default 1st gen integra motor (1.6 dohc) and ZC

Hey, whats up, a buddy of mine's gonna swap a 89 integra dohc engine into his 86 cr-x Si. now I heard the ZC and his D16a-something are very similar, can the cams for the ZC be used in his motor? Also since the '89 teg motor is a D-series, can pistons (aftermarket) for a newer d-series fit? Basically, I wanna know what are the possible mods that can be done with the engine he has. Thanks.

The ZC cams will bolt into the D16A1. I'm not too sure that SOHC pistons will work with the DOHC head. I believe the valve cuts on the SOHC pistons are different from the ZC/Teg pistons. The bore sizes of both motors are the same though. HTH

the 89 integra is a 1st gen (olive vavle cover) ZC... it only has 108 hp ...he is better off getting a 2nd gen (black vavle cover) ZC

Bzzzt. Wrong.

86-87 USDM Teg -> D16A1 Olive/Brown 113hp 1.6l DOHC
88-89 USDM Teg -> D16A1 Black 118hp 1.6l DOHC
88-91 JDM Civic/CRX -> ZC Olive/Brown 130hp 1.6l DOHC

I believe there is a black top JDM ZC 1.6l DOHC, but I'm not sure what it came in.

The only one major problem with putting a 2nd generation ZC in a 1st generation crx. The 2nd generation ZC uses different motor mounts. In fact you have to modify one of the mounts on the integra (D16A1) motor to make it work. Here is a very good article about the swap:
http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/3gtech.html

The D16A1 is also rated at about 118 hp rather than 108 of the 1st gen ZC (olive vavle cover).
