If your car's height adjustable for the slight difference, 225-50-15 might be an economical alternative for putting more tread on the ground.
If the new tyre's sidewalls are as still as the old tyre's, I don't think you'd have to worry about the extra sidewall height as long as you can get the car down to make up for the slight difference.
IMHO, of course.

Wider tread. Not more tread, just wider tread.
As for being economical, Vulcan is not yet posting prices for the 225, so we will just have to wait and see. (The price of the 205 size is 35 percent more than the same size in the older RT-215, but is still quite reasonable compared to many other top-performing tires.)

The sidewall height on the 225/50-15 size is only 0.2 inch higher than stock - about the same amount by which the sidewall height of a stock size tire is taller than a 205/50-15 tire should be. I doubt that that small a difference in sidewall height is all that critical. If the 225 size rubs - I haven't tried it, and don't know whether it does or doesn't, but if it does - I would suspect it would be more due to the tread being 20 mm (0.8 inch) wider than the sidewall height being 0.2 inch taller.
These sidewall height figures assume, of course, that the size for the new RT-615 is similar to other brands/models of tires of the same nominal size. With the older RT-215, we have found that that assumption is NOT valid (at least, not for the 205/50-15). With the RT-615, again, we will have to wait and see.

yes, it will be interesting to see if the new 205 width will be the same as the old style 205 width (which we all know was not 205), or have they started producing tires more in line with the other brands width sizes.

What'd I do? I did my research and decided that 245/45's will give me exactly what I'm looking for. Working with a large tire inventory everyday certainly helps me there.

I've evidently failed to express myself correctly again.
I wasn't worried about rubbing, but referring to the Honda Challenge racer's obsession with sidewall height. If the car is 1/4" higher than it would be with 205-50-15 or 225-45-15, then he is going to lower the car that 1/4", guaranteed.
It seems to me (on the east coast, anyway) that the other drivers tend to follow their lead.
On a DC2 ITR with a reasonable chassis height and reasonable wheel offset yes, you're right, 225 section tyres fit just fine. Some of us would have to roll the rear fender lips, but we also (some of us) have to do that with +38 using R comp 205's, so it's not anathema.
