Default Removed shaved side moldings *pictures*

Hey guys here's pictures of the side moldings I removed with a flat head and a hammer. I recently bought this as a shell from a guy as a winter project car. Anyway he did a few things I didn't like. for example the shaved side moldings. Never did it before, and nobody could really help me on here so I just went ahead and did it.

I'm going to do a DIY write up later with more pictures like before and after and instructions but I could only use my brothers digital camera for a little while today and the before pictures are on a disposable that i have to get developed.

Welll it was basically just any other shaved side molding. Let me know what you think. I know the car looks real shitty the previous owner primered it with rattle cans... I used some rust-stop on the bare metal to keep it from rusting until I get it prepped and painted. Hopefully i'll paint it within this month

After knocking most of the bondo out, Get to sanding. I'm going to be putting stock side moldings back in there so I didn't worry too much about whatever left over bondo was there in the center. I just made sure everything thats going to be exposed after the paint job got sanded real good. You're probably going to have to do some feather edging later.

I couldn't use my brothers camera for too long so I just took pictures of the final product on the driver side. Sprayed some rust-stop on it to keep it from rusting.

The doors aren't finished

Btw. It does put small dents in the car. But just make sure you stay centered where the side molding is because that's the part that's going to be covered by the side molding anyway. But I would reccommend a less-savage method if you plan to keep the car sidemolding-less

Anyway write-up to come soon. Let me know what you guys think first though.

PS. dont give me any crap about the car being primered like that =T I didn't do it. I'm going to prep it the right way before I paint it

Oh yeah, one thing you have to keep in mind is, the guy didn't bother to fiberglass or weld the holes where the clips go into. I guess I got lucky, So before you go and try this yourself. Take off the door panel or the quarter panel plastic and stick your hand in there to see if it's been welded or fiberglassed shut.

Good idea, I may have to remember this when I get my hatch...

could you take your door panel off and hammer a nail through the holes where the side molding brackets were so you can get out any fiberglass or bondo without pounding dents into the door?

It might be hard to get a good angle to hammer it out with. And you definately wont have any luck trying to go in from the back side of the quarter panel and hammering out any fiberglass.. And it might warp the metal cuz its really think. The only thing I could really think to do would be to use a dremel and dremel the square shape or drill it out or something.
