Default Project DX

Well, I did it. I went out and bought myself a beat up 1995 Civic DX. It took me forever to find an EG hatch that hadn't been riced out. So, after driving 3 hours one way and paying way too much, let me introduce her.

1995 Honda Civic DX
Harvard Blue
144,800 miles

I'm working on removing the pin stripe.

And here is the whole family. My 03 Si, 95 DX, and the wife's 05 EX.

Now I know this should probably be in the appearance forum, but being that I just signed up I can't post there.

Edit: Changed my picture format over to iServe thumbnails so I don't use up all my bandwidth. Pictures of the gutted interior will come tomorrow...

*Puts flamesuit on*

I paid $3700 for it. Might as well say $4000 since I have to drop $300 for tax, tags, and registration here in PA.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ . For a DX with that mileage? Hoooooooooooooooly ******* Moses you got taken, but it's a nice shell and it doesn't seem to have any glaring physical issues.

Good luck with your project, man, and welcome .

To tell you the truth I've been a VW guy forever. I bought my Si in 03 when the local VW dealer screwed me on a GTI. Now I know most of you hate the new Si, but I love it. It's a great car for daily driving, but too heavy to autocross. So that's the reason for purchasing the DX.

The first thing this car is getting is paintless dent removal and a new interior. Why a new interior? I just cant stand the grey, it looks so cheesy...oh and it smells like feet. Now I know you're all saying "We don't care why you bought the car, and we don't give a rat's *** about your dents or interior. What's going under the hood?". The answer to that is simple. "I don't know".

So far I've decided I want to get away from turbos. Every car I've owned has been turbo. So whatever I go with will be sans-snail. I've heard great things about the Honda B18C engines, but on the other hand that H22A has a bit more displacement and seems to be a little less in demand.

Well I just pulled the rear interior out and found some really disturbing things. First off I have never in my life seen such a filthy interior. The bottom of the rear bench was soaked in what looks like soda. The entire floor pan was coated in a sticky syrup probably from the evaporated soda. Pens, pencils, change, ballons, candy wrappers, business cards, love letters, and cassette tapes are just a few of the items I found adhered to the floor.

After removing the rear quarter panels I found even more "free gifts" from the previous owner. The fender wells were actually stuffed with so much junk it almost looked like they were used as saddle bags. On closer inspection of the rear hatch it looks like that "slight tap" in the rear actually split the seam where the floor pan and hatch meet. It doesn't look too bad though. I'll get pictures of this tomorrow. I just wished I would've taken pictures after I removed the rear seat...it was amazing.

I don't know how long I'll be able to stand driving around with no rear interior in this car, being that the muffler is rusted out. I actually give rice boys a run for their money in the loudest exhaust category. I guess that black interior swap is going to happen a lot sooner than later.

Edit: spelling and grammar.

Well since I just registed as a new user and cannot post in the Appearance/Cosmetic forum, I'm using another account to update this thread.

Well I spent all Sunday taking the interior out to check for damage, rust, or hidden treasures. I wish I would've taken some before pics of all the trash I cleaned out. Here is how she sits at the moment.

In this pic you can see the stick residue all over the floor pan where the rear seat would go.

Now for the worst part. When I picked the car up I noticed the rear bumper had been pushed under like it had been backed into something. I checked for damage but didnt really see anything...until I removed the rear plastic.

Here is a close up of each hole

I'm going to try and pound them back with a rubber mallet then weld them closed. Hopefully it stops raining sometime soon. As you can see I've got a lot of cleaning up to do. I definitely need a new exhaust pronto. It is almost deafening to drive the thing. If anyone knows where I can get a stock exhaust for cheap that would be a big help.

Removed the carpet and front interior pieces today. Also went to 2 different auto salvages looking for black interior pieces and the stock exhaust, but had no luck.

It was so cold I was actually able to get most of the tar out of the front.

I also vaccumed out the inside a bit. I wanted to wash the interior but ran out of daylight.
