My ED6 unveiling: Build Stage 1 and Photo Journal
Here's my beloved 89 STD for all of you kind EF folks to check out
It's got a vibration free B-series swap and a pleasant street chassis setup.
Everything on the car is 100% DIY. No shops have touched it aside from the initial state inspection to get tags when i first bought it, and the alignment that was done after I rebuilt the front end. It runs and drives great. No problems. Feels like it came this way from the factory; it feels like the farthest thing from a hack job. Lots of goodies and a fair share of custom fabricated parts. It was designed to be a well-rounded, reliable street car...
Love it. Hate on it. It's all good. I truly love my EF and it is a pleasure to drive it every day. I love it more and more each day.
I thank all of you members of the EF-HONDA.COM and Honda-Tech communities very much for helping me build this car. Without all of you, this project would have never happened. It is truly a pleasure to be a member of these communities.
It has been a wonderful experience and I hope to continue the project further.
There is a little movie I made about it here. There are some abbreviated specs at the end of the movie.
Pics:
Various glamour shots of it's current state ;-)
big EF love in the little city.

Blang BLANG.

All Cozy.

Like the tails, the headlights are custom Team 706 DIY Rice.

Guts.

A slightly older pic...

And here are a few pics detailing how it got where it is now....
BEFORE:

Motor yanked...Painted bay

Rebuilt rack

Full Mugen rubber

XSi knuckles w/ new wheel bearings, Rotora (Axxis) 10.3" rotors, Moog UCAs and LBJs, Mugen rubber

Custom HD front sway bar mounts

Front end joy.

Prelude 15/16 MC and brace.. there are some Russell SS lines to go with these as well..

Misc Interior:

Misc motor fun....
Custom baffled oil pan

ALL new gaskets...All hoses replaced with German fuel line....IBSpec dual springs/titanium retainers...GSR/ITR oil pump...new OEM water pump....blah blah blah blah..just trying to be thorough.

Bling. Almost ready to rock.

What do you do when you have a 130A D-series alternator that you really want to use with your massively underdriven Fluidampr pulley? Well, in this case we made a hybrid with the B-series alternator.

Clutch cable bushing wrapped with stainless wire.. OLD skool racing trick.. rules.. if u have an upgraded clutch, try it and see for yourself

Exedy "racing" full face organic street goodness

XACT ProLite chromoly flywheel

LSD Y1. Works extremely well. Absolutely NO chatter and NO grinds thanks to the exotic Lubegard LSD additive + GM Syncromesh FM + Lucas lubricant cocktail.

Custom motor mounts being roughed in (based on old school HCP kit: OEM ED rear/pass, OEM DA drivers and HCP/ES solid urethane front mount... there are no issues with motor movement due to the stiff front mount..but your car will still idle smoothly.. this configuration allows you the option of using Mugen ED tranny mounts.. or filling the mounts with urethane and getting a stiff 4mount set up)

A little welding...

Some of the finished mount hardware.... ignore the overspray on the rubber :-)

Custom access hole for an extension..and welded-on fasteners make removal/installation of these mounts a breeze and immune to installer/alignment error.

As you can see from some of the pics at the top of the thread... Motor sits in there good. Nice and straight. Check out the lovely axle angles... The stock SiR shift linkage also fits like a glove... as does the stock ED exhaust.. Ground clearance is like stock. That should say something about motor placement... And there is no pulling to either side or any other funny shennanigans. .. and yes that is a modified Accord radius rod to clear the Fluidampr race pulley...

there is a rubber bushing on the end of the clutch cable. it introduces slop that is welcome in a stock performance / general populus driver configuration.
if you [mostly] defeat the rubber piece's influence (i.e. by wrapping it in mechanics wire)...and then route the clutch cable carefully (i.e. watch your bend angles) and clamp the cable down nicely (if you look at the pic that says "Bling. Almost ready to rock." you can see 3 of the clamps)....
then you should have a very nice feeling from your cable clutch and perhaps find that the manual adjustment wheel seems to a be a bit more effective in terms of granularity.
the clutch cable i am using is a DA cable but these concepts applies to the ED or EF cable as well. the most effect will probably be seen with a non-stock (i.e. HD) clutch & PP set

and... thanks all for the positive comments.
I hope that by sharing my experiences it can help inspire at least one of us out there.
My car started it's new life as a $440 oil-burning ~70HP 4spd with a missing front motor mount, cracked windshield, bad axles and 200K miles. It is pretty good now; not the fastest/coolest thing ever but it does it's job well.
btw superjay your car looks really fantastic.
