transmission
i have an 89 dx with an auto and i wanna do a head or engine swap then do some performance mods. the only problems are i dont know how much power the trans can take. and i heard the crank is weak in the d15. what would be the max i could get out of the stock motor and trans? has anyone seen hi powered auto hondas out there. this will be my daily beater so im not gonna get too crazy. but i would like to boost to like 200hp
Auto is no good for honda..
You would have to get a high rpm stall..Because the stock tranny shifts to low in the rpm range..And the max power will not be achieved...
Ive seen some high powered auto hondas..But they're full race cars with over 1000hp with race auto's...Not that bullshit in your car...
Not only is the crank weak in the d15..The whole motor is weak and is only good for about 200whp given its in good condition and gets a good tune..and has the proper sized turbo...
After the 200whp mark ,,you need to think about rods/pistons/headwork/etc......
The first thing you have to do is convert to mpfi..
Then get civic/crx si manual transmission.(trust me..Autos suck for street hondas)
You'll start to notice a hp gain and better acceleration ..
Then get a 88-91 civic/crx si cam..(Or maybe even do a mini-me setup)
Do a homemadeturbo setup and run on turboedit..And find a good tuner..
You should be ale to hit the 180-190whp mark with a good tune..
And the best part is you dont have to spend a shitload of money..Just keep it simple and reliable......
And it might even be cheaper if you just sell your auto and buy a manual..If you go this route try and find a si civic/crx or a crx hf(They come stock mpfi)
