Default New to the Forum (not the game) here with Q 4 U :

Recently purchased Crx, want to do D-series build, i was wondering if anybody knows the strongest/ toughest block for a starting point? (D16z, D16a, or D16y or any other insights would be most helpful) thank you for your time and hope to hear choices and reasoning behind Block Choices! -Ryan

P.S- I am refering to Block composites , Bolt patterns and Coolant passages to determine Block Strength.

Well if you're gonna built it up(sleeves, pistons, rods, headwork) then it doesnt really matter what motor you use,,

I would use the d16a6..The head flows good..Its cheap..Theres no vtec so it'll be easier to tune..

Or a dohc zc for its twin cams..Although some parts are somewhat hard to come by..

I appreciate the reply but i was wondering if the blocks were all the same or they might have different size crank journals or coolant passages in some cases stronger end and mains. the reason i ask is larger journal size and stronger end and mains can strengthen the overall integrity of the block. Which in turns means-less spun bearings, less block flex, higher coolant flow/lower block temp, higher peak power and more reliable power as well.
any info on any of block dimensions greatly appreciated thanks again!
anything you can tell me could help-Ryan

damn dude you know your **** real well.
If the intergrity of the block is such to the point that you are going to use it as a springboard to the next level(rods/pistons/sleeves/) you are going to need to know that Honda Blocks are extremely tough. As stated before me, the block isn't going to matter. If you peruse around this forum you will most likely find someone who has a killer setup, and they will list the block and all that extra stuff they used. I'm not saying mimick i'm saying, we've got people on ehre who have done incredible things on stock blocks. So i say choose one that suits your needs. If you are going to join the rest with vtec get the motor that will give you that advantage and then work on that level. In my readings i would say the Z will give you strength over all.
Point in case - You seem to know alot already, i am 100% you will choose any of those blocks and will make your project work for you.
Sorry if i didn't asnwer your question....but honestly any block you choose has unlimited possibilites....So get the d block that will serve it's purpose....
good luck man

I appreciate the background info, thanx for advice i will probably go with the d16a6 block seeing as i have one in the back of the shop already. I just had no clue as to the journal sizes or clearance and coolant passages of its d-series kin. good ideas though i'm sure i'll get decent power from a d16a6 after all they do have the highest flow rate and lift of the d-series sohc heads. any other info is much appreciated!-Ryan
