yesterday i was trying to change a wheel stud, and after putting everything back together, i notice a slight vibration and a pretty noticeable thud or thumping sound from this wheel(front drivers) when i am braking and about to stop. i originally thought i overtorqued the caliper, but i re-did it today to factory specs and it still happens. visual inspection says everything else looks fine. anyone have ideas?

all but the very easy stops. it really only happens after i slow down considerably and right before i stop moving

both the axles and the lower balljoints have like 6k miles
.
i wonder if it could be loose tierod balljoints giving too much play in the knuckle and letting it rattle and vibrate

remove the caliper and check to see if one of the clips for the brake pads didnt fall out when you had the car apart ... that would cause the brake pads to move and make a click when you hit the brakes

I just changed my wheels yesterday from polished blades to painted blades (both stock obviously) and I had the same type of noise for about 80 miles. Seems like the wheels need to almost "seat" to the hub before the noise stops, does this sound retarted?

I agree
Check the ball joints and tie rods. Worst case scenario would be that you damaged the wheel bearings when you pulled the wheel hub to remove the broken wheel stud.

all my clips are on the calipers/pads.
ive driven maybe 30 miles since i noticed it. the thumping is just about gone, just a lil squeak now, but my steering wheel does shake at 60+ mph and right before i come to a stop. im replacing tierod ends anyway, cause my chassis has 200k miles to begin with. but i think its them because my mazda has the same steering wheel shake at higher speeds, and i looked at that and with the tire off i can move the whole knuckle side to side because i have play in the tie rod balljoint. now i got 2 cars with tie rods to replace
