Default civic si not producing???

hey guys this is my first thread so cut me sum slack. Ok so i went to the dyno today with high hopes. You know at least 142 at the wheels . Yet after the first pass i manage only 124 hp and 89 ft. lbs. WTF!!!!! motor doesnt smoke or anything.

So we find out what the problem might be is the spark plug wires not making full contact with the cap. after new ngk wires and a new cap we get it up to 137 hp.

All in all after bout 25 dyno passes we get up to 140 hp and 101 ft lbs. still low #'s for the mods i think! but anyways any suggestions why? any help would be appreciated greatly!!!!

Might be helpful if you gave us a complete list of mods, and what dyno was used. I doubt it but was the weather super hot?

Seems like all you have is i/h/e, you shouldn't worry too much.

140 and 101 seem like right numbers to me, assuming that is at the wheels, a b16 only has 160 hp and 11 lbs/ft of torque at the crank, and an i/h/e isn't going to add that much, but those seem like right numbers to me

so 140whp was after thorough tuning with your vafc??

do those control ignition timing as well as fuel?
if not I would look into that.

have you done a compression and leakdown test?
if so what were the numbers, if not, do it!

Motor doesnt sound like its the peppiest b16 ever,
but doesnt mean it's broken neccessarily.

I would say check your oil levels.

other than that are you running some stupid like 3" straight pipe or something cause that could lead to some power loss also.

One solution...tunable EMS.

Uberdata, Hondata, AEM EMS

ive got an 00 si w/ skunk2 stage 2 cams, matching valve train, skunk2 intake manifold, 70mm bbk tb, fuel rail, regulator, injectors, jdm gsr headers, test pipe, 2 1/2" exhaust, and a vafc 2, i put down an embarrassing 149hp and 99 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels at 8k, heres why, i didnt have cam gears, and i couldnt get rid of the rev limiter and the vafc is garbage, get rid of the vafc and get hondata, 140 is great for the little amount u have done, as for ur dip in vtec if it feels sluggish tthen u need to set ur vtec back to like 5800 and lean it out where it feels sluggish, ur ignition is not the problem its the air fuel mixtures, well i hope this answers some questions

low? isnt the tq on a b16 like 1lb better than a d16y8? so like 111, or 113? somewhere in there

YEA i think it is like 111 at the flywheel. What iam wanting to know is what to do next in terms of performance? Oh and the valve adj. not more than 5000 miles ago.

I think by getting cam gears, he means you need to adjust cam timing with adjustable cam gears. Thats where I would go next.

Those numbers are normal.

My wife's old B16A2 baselined 143whp/102ft-lbs. of torque with i/h/e and a rechipped P28 ECU.

If you go with a tunable engine management system, you'll have to convert down to OBD1, which makes emissions a pain in the *** if you have emissions.

Where are you from, and do you have emissions where they plug in the OBD2 scanner?

sounds about normal for the b16, if you want to get real power like i have decided; your going to need to go forced induction. (i am currently saving for, not happy with i/h/e on the si)

as long as the weight was lower, or the actual diameter of the rubber from edge to edge is smaller... yeah, it will help But smaller overall diameter will also decrease your gas mileage, (probably just on highway where it can cruise with no acceleration, unless the big wheels make it work too hard)
