What beaters do you guys have and whats a good one to get??
Whatever you do...DON'T do what I did. You will keep wanting to spend more and more $$ on it.
I bought a '92 CX as my beater...then it became my hybrid. I love it to death and I want to keep spending money on it.
Try to buy something with little or NO aftermarket support so you're not tempted to do an engine swap, turbo or something like that.

I got a 90 CRX HF with 149k miles for 1500. After a timing belt, water pump, plugs and wires, 30k miles later it still gets 40mpg
I got a 89 isuzu Impulse turbo (stick)(110k miles) that I picked up for $500.00
lotus handling hehehe

Volvo 760turbo. Cheap and can be quite fun to drive. I wouldn't go for a Honda hatchback if I were you. They are reliable, but c'mon...the CX makes like 65HP to the wheels.

buy an old 4X4 ie:
early 80's Jeep
66-77 Bronco
70's Land Cruiser
It's good to have variety, why have two hondas?. You can find them on Autotrader.com for cheap! They are great beaters and they are fun as , i drive mine down the road and people get out of my way quick. Plus i never have to worry about it getting stolen/vandalized,

One Conquest TSi. Might pick up another this weekend, then move all the good parts to one and sell the other.
Want to pick up a 92 hatch.
Would also consider getting an old Volvo to replace my teg when I sell it. Need to have a daily drive with style! lol

Volvo 240GT... no aftermarket support.
I second that. I got my wagon for $500
And it's a hoot to drive. No, really! As far as the older 4x4's, good luck finding a cheap Cruiser. FJ prices are even more inflated that Jeep CJ's. Older Broncos can get expensive, too. If you want to pursue this track, I'd recommend post-76 Broncos or K5 Blazers. Fun to drive, abundant spare parts, and a large aftermarket if you want to play.

It's a nice sized car. I just got it not to long ago.. I plan on making it my daily driver during the summer and the R will be my weekend car/track car.

Depends on what you want to do with the beater. I have a 1990 Miata which is about to turn into a track day car. But I use it around the city, etc. etc. The fact that it is a two-seater is a blessing and a curse.
a corolla. they are reliable and get good gas milage. and you can't do too much in terms of modifcations. I have a 96 corolla. I think i paid 6 grand for it.
I have two '95 Civic CX hatches...
One will become a hybrid this year, but I'm still unsure to which one...

Define "Beater" please
Shutting off with out letting the car idle for 3-4 min.
2 washes per year
In a laxed state of being maintained
Non-OEM parts installed
Severe flogging when ever it is driven
Consumption of oil is a given
etc
OH WAIT!!!! Some ITR owners treat their ITR that way.
