Koni Yellows + GC = What spring rate?
Alright, tax return is coming and I'll be getting some decent money. I've read up on spring rates, but they still confuse me.
I was wondering what spring rates I should get. I drive a 98 GS-R on Falken Ziex w/ LS mesh rims. It's my daily driver so I want comfortability. It's possibly I'll do some drag/auto-x in the future. So, I suppose I'd like an inbetween spring rate of comfortability and performance. For now the car is going to be lowered about 2inches.
Also, would I need a camber kit?
If you need anymore information, just ask. thanks again.

The camber kit is optional, just get a good alignment done. There are people on here with a 2-3 inch drop with out a camber kit and they dont have any camber wear problems.
As for the spring rates, i would recommend off the shelf spring rates, which are noticeably stiffer then stock, but not unbearable. I am using a similar setup, Koni Yellows, and OTS GC Coilovers, on 205/40/17. I personally don't mind the stiffer feel but some people don't like it, but with your 15's the ride should be a little bit more comfortable. Just don't get any spring rates higher than 400, cause i believe the OTS konis are vavled for upto 400, but im not 100% sure on this, so make sure you read up on this. and i think the OTS spring rates for the GC Coilovers are 380F/250R.

I'm running 380 front and 450 out back. Yeah it's pretty damn stiff.
From what I understand you should be able to go up to 500 lb/in on OTS Koni shocks, but anything beyond that is really pushing their limits.
There is a guy in the roadrace forum who works for Koni, I believe that's what he said.

i had the same question a few weeks back. after a pretty long thread with a lot of opions i went with 380(OTS) for the front and 300 for the rear.
you dont need a 400/500 setup to go out and have fun or even be competitive on the auto-x or drag track.
you probably dont want a rear biased set-up if you are the kind of person that will let off the gas mid turn. get a type-r rear sway bar and the car will be balanced enough that you wont need a rear biased set up. the OTS Konis are valved for up to 550, so no worries about getting them revalved.
id bump up the rear spring rate a little bit if i was you and keep the front OTS. you can always pick up some higher rated springs down the road if you want a stiffer set up.
my 2 cents.

i wish i did. a lot of good info in that thread. i guess old threads get purged in the suspension forum.
i have a DA but id assume the info would be basically the same for a DC.

Be sure you get the Ground Controls made for Koni shocks. It replaces the Koni's spring perch altogether, and looks (and is) pretty much the same as a full adjustable coilover setup.
I went ahead and got custom rates with mine, because GC doesn't charge any extra for custom rates if you order it right along with the sleeves.

I think I'll be ordering my konis/gc's from a sponser on here, nolimitmotor sports. I'll probably get the koni's within the next week. Don't have the money for the gc's yet.

Alright, well i ordered gc(OTS)/koni from nolimitmotorsports on monday. Just have one more question. After I get them installed, I know I'm suppose to get an alignment. Now, would any shop that usually does alignments do it for my car, considering its going to be lower? I'm just wondering if they would reject me. and, do I have to tell them something specific about the alignment?
thanks again
thanks again
Try to find a shop that works with a lot of lowered cars. I know somepeople have said that thye have had problems with some shops saying no to a lowered car. Personally i found a tire wheel place that caters to the aftermarket.
if you order the GC's directly from GC, just tell them what you want outta your car and what you use your car for and they'll figure out the best spring rate for you....thats what i did! btw, i ended up with these.
good luck!

Helps car rotate better, not understeer so much in autocross and such.
As for an alignment, the ONLY reason a shop should "reject" you as you say, is if the car physically can't get up onto the rack. Some shops like to charge more for lowered cars, but IMHO that's BS if they only adjust the toe and don't have to mess with any camber kits or anything.
I know one shop around here that specializes in lowered cars. They have an alignment rack built into a ledge in the floor so you just drive straight out onto it, instead of having to go up ramps. I think they charge like $80 to align a lowered car, but if you're only getting the toe adjusted (which is what I do) then they should NOT charge any more than any other car.

If you lift off the throttle mid-corner, most definitely. Any car can do that, but it's more prone to do it w/ a stiffer rear end (higher rear spring rates and/or bigger rear swaybar).
Hey...I have the same setup you are wanting to get. I went with 450 up front and 300 in the back. It is great with daily driving and still does well at autox. Also, think about going with the Type R rear sway bar and that will give you the rotation you are missing with the GSR. I love my setup!!!

Wow, that is pretty stiff.
My girl just bought a tC and the rates for the tein's we're looking at are 392F/559R. I'm not sure if this would be good on her tC because it's a daily, not a track car.
