New 2 The Prelude and the Wonderful world of tunning...... HELP!
i just bought a 2001 prelude about 5 months ago and finally its paid off...
I can't wait till this spring because i am going to finally be able to tune it... only problem is i dont know much. i have around $5,000 to spend give our take a bit and i was wondering what would you do in my situation? I know i should do the whole headers, intake exhaust thing. but i have no clue what i should get. since it looks like most of you know what you are taking about some advice would be greatly appreciated so i dont get taken for a ride at some auto motive shop.
thanks for your help

Well, it really depends on what you want.
But if I were going to JUST spend 5,000 on a stock prelude, Id get a Turbo setup, Hondata, Nice size intercooler, 3" downpipe, highflow cat, 02 Simulator, and 3" Custom Mandrel bent exhaust with your favorite muffler. Id go with a Skunk2.
And if you can find all that under 4grand, Id spend 1k on some Turbo Cams from a reliable company.
With stock internals only boost 7psi - 8psi... but if you dont buy a turbo "kit" and build your own setup You'll have room in the future, for further modification without having to adjust the setup, or exhaust.
With that setup above.. You'll definatly get some power out of the beast.
Best way to spend 5k

ya that sounds like a good plan but it really depends on what you want out of the car. do you want performance? or you want it kitted or what?
if i had 5 gs to spend id start with suspension and go the NA route. cams, valvetrain, hondata, bolt ons of course. thats just me hehe

If you wanted to go turbo, and had 5k, id build at least the block first....then either spend a little more and have a real nice setup or build a mild turbo setup....but either way then you can really upgrade in the future, and have more reliablebilty then boosting the stock block...which can be done, but only for about 300 whp or so...and trust me you will want to turn up the boost shortly after u get used to it

It all depends on how much time you want to put into your car/motor or future money. If I were you I would spend 1,000-1,500 on suspension (tein coil-over, progress rear sway car, struts, tower bar, ect). After that i'd pull the motor, swap in some type-s pistons, p&p the head, jun cams, valves spring ect. New header(smsp) and then maybe if you have any cash left over i'd drop in a quafie LSD.
By the time this is all complete (assuming you do everything yourself) you could start looking into tuning. You won't gain much on tuning a stock motor (could probaly up the MPG) But with a hondata system you might be looking at high 190's or maybe 200+whp with this setup. All depends on the tuning.
With a great suspension and a 200whp with an LSD = one badass handling fast prelude
Oh and maybe some falken aziens (sp?)

if i could do it all over again, i wouldnt even think about getting anything but turbo right away. If you want power and recognition dont WASTE your money on headers or intake, powergains are Negligible and marginal. Suspension then Turbo on LOW boost until you can build your motor. Rev Hard Kit is $2700 (www.turbo-kits.com) and comes with everything you need to run low-safe boost. you can spend the rest on suspension and saving up for the motor build. Nothing is cooler than turbo. Kits, rims, and paint can come later, turbo is the hardest thing to save for because its a huge chunk of money. Rims, kits, and paint are easier to save for because they are individually cheaper.
turbo=big commitment. good luck trying to get that car smogged when you need to and your going to run into a lot of problems, so make sure your going to be ready for it. even if its built correctly, things will break and ur going to have to spend more money and expect downtime.
if ur thinking about going turbo, dont get headers or cai(intakes) cause ur basically going to have to throw it away when u go turbo.
think this over before u decide to dish out big bucks.
