synthetic a good change?
if u havent been running synthetic and u switch it could actully cause problems since synthetics and non-synthetics dont mix, even though there will only be a little left after u drain ur oil its in the small places where oil is vital the most and if the oils wont mix then it could cause problems.
i have been using regular valvoline max life in my d series for the last 30,000 and autozone was selling valvoline max life synthetic for 2 bucks a quart!!! for clearance so i switched to it. ive been running it for a while now with a fram TG fiter and its been great, i got a boost in oil pressure also and get better gas mileage, no problems yet,so yes it is safe,Oh yeah i flushed my engine out to b4 changing to synthetic
Synthetic is thinner that regular oil and if you have any leaks now, you will have a problem on your hands later on. You can go back to regular oil also, if you decide to change. You want to change the oil a little faster though, maybe aftr 1k miles jsut to get the synthetic mixed and out of your motor.

Huh? It's not vinegar and oil. Conventional and synthetic mix just fine, what do you think a synthetic blend is? It is fine to switch over to synthetic, even in high mileage vehicles, you should just be cautious and keep the following issues in mind:
Conventional oil, especially after 150k miles of use, will have developed sludge and deposits on the seals in your motor. This buildup will be broken down by the detergents found in synthetic oils like Mobil1. This is why some people think that switching to synthetic will lead to leaks and burning oil. This is possible when first making the switch, but should go away after 2-3 oil changes.
So, for the first 15k miles or so, keep close watch on your oil level, leaks around the valve cover gasket, cam seal, etc. If you notice that your oil level is low, then top it off with more synthetic and keep track of how much you used. For example, I bought a 1992 Integra LS with 134k miles on it. I immediately switched to Mobil1 synthetic, and did not experience any leaks. However, I did notice that I was burning about half a quart every 5,000 miles - which isn't bad at all. This could be due to 2 things usually - bad rings (this would cause oil burning all the time, regardless of synth vs. conventional) or the ability of synthetic to absorb/sink-in/penetrate metal surfaces and crevices better than conventional oil. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the latter.
I kept a close eye on things, and now, after 15k miles of Mobil1 10w30, I am experiencing no oil burning, and I am running 5,000 miles oil change intervals. visit http://www.bobistheoilguy.com and read up on the oils out there, and maybe order a Used Oil Analysis kit, then you can really find out your engine's condition and what is the best change interval for your car.
