Default uh oh.. OBX LSD problem

hey guys. i received an obx lsd in the mail recently and just as i was about to get the thing in i noticed something strange. Around the perimeter of the differential, there are 5 pairs of hexagonal screws for an allen wrench. But, it appears as if one of the bolts has had the head completely sheared off and the other bolt is just missing entirely. The empty hole is circled in red and the sheared bolt is cirlced in blue. Has anyone seen this before? Did i get a defective lsd?

btw i posted this in tech also to try to get a quicker answer

Do a search in the forced induction area. I think someone else has gotten an OBX with the same issue. I never figured out if it was normal or not. Keep us posted, I want one of those....

correction: search brought up nothing useful to my problem. by the way... the pics you showed of 1 2 NV's metal scraps are the remains of a KAAZ. not obx.

edit: SEFIxcivic said his KAAZ did the same thing

no problem. look on the bright side. at least you dont have a $400 useless piece of **** sitting around and no car to drive because of a lack of transmission.

I remember it was in one of the super long threads regarding the obx lsd. I remember that someones looked like it was missing one bolt, not two. I would take that one back for a different one. From what I have heard they are descent lsd's. There is someone in the forced induction area that is running 21lbs of boost + nitrous on his setup and the obx has held up.

I've seen that exploded pic, pretty sure that was a Kazz also

I wish there was more feeback about these things. For the price they seem like a great deal but i havent really heard any solid remarks about how it performs. Everyone knocks it because its OBX but if its a quality item i might save myself some money by getting the OBX instead of the Quaife.

i also remember seeing a post like this in the FI forum and its supposed to be like that, Its where like a dowel pin goes or something, but no worries they are supposed to be like that. If u look close enough on the ebay pic u can see that there is not a bolt present in one of the holes, its the bottom-most one.

Thats what you get for a cheap knock off.

Look for Earl's thread in the FI forum. He definetly shows WHY NOT to buy one of those LSDs.

many people have been running OBX LSDs under high stress conditions for over 6++months for $350-450 its not bad compared to the $900-1000 you pay for Quaife. PG sucks and Kaaz is ok for certain applications. i bet the OBX LSD most likely will last the trans its it.

OBX headers/turbo manifolds are shitty there tails are shitty and get foggerd up shifters snap but it tey actually made something good to all the shitty stuff they made before and it has proven itself then for them.

I dont have a LSD but OBX will be my first choice.

i have never seen a post about obx lsd ******* up and even if its made different then quaife or different material it still works. ALSO people need to install this LSD properly the way it should be done it's not a I SLAP LETS ROLL install. for the people who are pushing serious power and installed correctly have no problems.

a guy who races and beats his trans every week and changes fluid constantly will prolong the life of trans and internals. you can find people ocassionally changing trans fluid every year if that. i change mine every 2 oil changes. i change my oil every 2000-3kmiles. doing this will preserve trans and lsd.

Did you buy it brand new or used? If new, who did you buy it from? If used, then you can't really blame it on OBX.

See above, it was a KAAZ...

I personally have no testimony on the OBX but I hear good things about them and for the price you cant go wrong. Do a search for "hybrid hatch" or something like that, the guy has a 10 sec. daily driver puttin down over 500, and he's rockin the obx diff for months now with no problems. And this is launchin the **** outta the car on 24's...

I say make your own judgements and dont be a follower or bandwagoner.
