CD Player in MY price range
Hey all I'm looking to buy a CD player very soon and I'm wondering what kind I should get for around $300-$400. I was thinking Pioneer, but is there any specific Pioneer model that I should get? Keep in mind I'm planning to add an amp and possibly a sub. I'm not in dire need of bass as I listen to mostly rock. I would also like mp3 compatibility, but it's not a must have. Thanks for any replies.
hey again.
the new pioneers are coming out....we have some of em at best buy already and tehy have them in crutchfield already...they have the MP3 player which is a first for pioneer...but the skimp out on the eq features and preouts...low voltage. but yes most def go with pioneer....outta this years models that are out currently from the past model year..i would go for the pioneer 7300...its less than 400 bones and has a dedicated sub preout..internal crossovers, and front and rear preouts.
lemme know

Kenwood has a unit that can read MP3's n your price range. I'd do that over Pioneer.
Pioneer Premier DEHP740 is going to be a very solid choice. Reads MP3, 3 set's of pre outs at I beleive 4 volts (either 4 volts or 6.5). Organic display, EEQ, etc, etc. Basically this past years DEHP730 but with (in my opinion) more refined styling and the MP3 ability. We'll have them in two weeks. Ican put you on a list for that or any of the new units so you'll get the first batch. Let me know. Check us out here:

Thanks Carl. What's the price of it going to be and what is the exact date you're going to be getting em in. Also, I went to the site, but I guess it doesn't have the 7400 posted yet so do you have a link with pics and specs etc. Thanks.
Sorry, I don't have an EXACT date. our distributors are saying about 2 weeks. Could be sooner, could be a little later. I don't know the price either...sorry. Should be around $270-$300 though. Yeah, were putting up all the new images and specifications as we speak. Things are being put up slowly as they become available to us. If your interested you can e-mail me at carl@audio-warehouse.com and I'll put you on a list for it. There are only a few people on it so you would definitly get one of the first ones. Let me know.

i would say get eclipse.. some of the best decks if your not running a line driver.. they have hight output voltage and is a very good sound quailty deck.... also the new pioneer 9300 is sweet.... check out the nack 45
I saw the new Pioneer deh-p740 and i'm not too fond of the way it looks. Kinda ugly if you ask me. The only Pioneer deck i would get is the deh-p9300, now those are tite. Basically has all the features you want, plus the nice high resolution organic display. You can find these on ebay for like $450. You should also check out Kenwood Excelons. IMO, I think their quality is a little better than Pioneer.
i can't believe you guys are leaving out /////ALPINE!!!!!!!! good SQ, SPL, CD to Noise ratio, RMS watts per channel, alpine reputation, reasonable price, and 4-volt sub preamp output

Well I wanna help out so I did a little research. I haven't actually used either of these (the Clarion DXZ815MP or the Kenwood KDC-MP8017 but from what I read out of people opinions and the actual spex of each all in all the Clarion is a better buy even though your paying 30-40 bucks more.
Here are the links:
Clarion http://www.sounddomain.com/shop/item.pl?sku=CLADXZ815MP
Kenwood http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/KENKDCMP8017
I believe the Z919 model made by Kenwood, this is a better re-created model (the KDC-MP8017) with more features and it's more affordable)
not sure if this will help... check them out though -cheerz-

i have an Alpine head unit and really like it.. if I were in the market for another deck i would look into either another Alpine or Eclipse/Fujitsu Ten deck.. both very good, high quality.. I looked at Kenwoods Z919 but decided to keep my //Alpine CDA-7969 and just wait for them to come out w/ a CD-changer that i could daisy chain to my 12 disc changer and have Mp3 capability...

ck279: How long until you're getting those new Pioneers in at http://www.audiowarehouse.com? I think it's been about two weeks.
What does that mean? Are you talking about all Pioneers or just the new ones? And will that matter if I'm not gonna get more than an amp and maybe a sub?
All the big manufacturers are coming out with newer improved models in february. That's what I heard at least and that's why I'm saving up for my future mp3 deck.
Pioneer joined the MP3 craze and came out with the DEH-P7400MP. Probably between $300~400. But since it's their first MP3 deck, it might have some bugs and problems. (Pioneer known for their quality products, surely will fix anything that comes up...)
IMO the best price/value mp3 deck would be the JVC KD-SH99 since it has many features and is cheap. They go for less than $300. So you should consider that.
Alpine's CDA-7878 MP3 deck is too expensive, 500 per deck.
Every MP3 deck has their pro's and con's. Some skip, some can't read IDE tags...etc. It really depends on what you want. Do you want maximum character dislpay, support for ID tags, pre-outs....it all depends..
I'd say wait until february. Waiting won't do you any harm, will it?
EDIT: Answer to how many mp3 songs fit in a 700mb CD. Roughly between 100~120. You can put them in folders, so you won't have to press the next track button 99 times to get to #99.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner.....I'm not always on here.
Anyway, I have to apologize. I spoke to our distributors and the high decks from Pioneer (DEHP9400MP, DEHP8400MP, DEHP7400MP, and DEHP6400) are not going to be realeased until March. Thats going to be for the 6400 and 7400. I expect the 8400 and up to be released even later.

The new CDA7998 is sweet. 1.3DIN motorized face, time delay, flexible crossover points, parametric built along with i Personalize where you download settings for them off Alpine's website and burn it onto a CDR and load it to your headunit. There's a hookup for a Nokia wireless phone and there is supposed to be REAL Monster cable RCAs attached to the deck. It has no copperplated chassis though and I'm not sure about a digital out. But it is XM ready. If anyone hasn't checked this out yet, it is so cool.
Everyone should want a CDA7998.

just to clear something up- there is a big difference in the pioneer premier line and the regular pioneer line.
I purchased one of the premier ones for this reason, i have a deh-720, and it is wonderful, and yes, it does have 3 4V preouts! I like the styling, the organic el display is very easy to read, even in the sun.

to you guys in the car audio industry.. or anyone that knows ..I went to Al & Eds Autosound today and asked about the CHA-S634.. it is not out yet however the guy told me it will NOT work w/ my CDA-7969... he told me that the MP3 is decoded in the head unit and NOT the changer.. he told me i would have to buy a new deck that is MP3 capable.. which i think is rather dumb.. because if i bought a new deck that plays MP3s and decodes them.. then why would i buy the changer..
anyway do you guys know if this is true? or is he just trying to sell me a new deck along w/ the CHA-S634? i would really like to keep my CDA-7969 and get an AI-net changer that plays Mp3s... i dont really want to replace my head unit as I like the phantom face and other features it has..
so is the decoder in the head unit? or in the changer? to my understanding.. it should be in the changer and not the head unit...
thank you in advance for any information on this..
