FIA 2010 harnesses... are they available yet?
Does anyone know if I order OMP belts now if they will be tagged as 2004-2009 or 2005-2010? If they're still 2009, when will the 2010's be out? Thanks.

I just got an OMP set a couple of weeks ago from Pegasus and they expire in 2009.
Chad, I think you might have missed that. NASA CCR says FIA belts age out on Dec 31 of the tagged expiration year. So, If I understand this correctly, I'll buy a new set in Jan 2010. I'll get 5 race seasons out of this set! (And the car is garaged with minimal UV exposure).

uhhh. not to get into the money vs sense thing.....but doesn't CCR say 2 years(maybe thats just SFI belts). also, even with FIA belts you have to consider the amount they are used and/or exposed to the elements, including heat and UV...
for me though, i'd end up keeping the belts for as long as they are good, jsut as with helmets, even if the braid docs say 2 years is max on a helmet due to UV decomposition issues. then again, my last name isn't schumacher, gordon, kinser, or force so i probably don't have to worry about "the rare cases of failure"
my $0.02.

For DE use sure - but anything past the 'expired' date you need to keep a very close eye on it. Inspect them every frequently.

I will have to talk to richard to clear it up but it was my assumption that nasa DE will abide by the same rules as race car on this subject. just like when they run a roll bar... the helmet... etc.

Ultimately yes. But the instructors tech the car... and i have not seen an instructor turn away a student on an expired harness - the pass side harness I used all last year was out of date.

Also would you feel more comfortable in a 3 year old expired harness or a 15 year old OEM belt? Are oem belts made with a different spec which make them stay good longer or are they just not expected to do as much so they don't even think about that?

i've wondered that about OEM belts too. are they soaked in something? stitched in some special way? or is it the belt material itself?
and for harnesses...when do they stamp the date on the belt? when they are made, or when they are sold?

It's my understanding that (in SCCA at least) they look at the manufacture date and the belts expire 2 years past the manufacture year. So the most one would get, is 3 seasons if the date happened to be in the beginning of the year.

You guys really need to read the SCCA GCR/NASA CCR.... SFI and FIA belts are not rated the same.
